I ground down the thread tunnel for the upper wheel's bolt on the inner cage. It allowed me to fit the upper wheel from an NX set, which have bushings instead of cartridge bearings. All is running well so far. Anyone else done this?

Nope.
But I did buy the gx sized bearings for about a quid and packed them with xhp222 and they've lasted 18 months so far !

What size are the bearings? I've just remembered the bearings I have are for the 11 speed jockey wheels, I assume there is a 50/50 chance that they are the same or diff cos thats how SRAM roll!

.. I ended up doing this, after I bought some NX jockey wheels..

SRAM GX rear mech jockey Wheels bearings (well 11 spd are this size):
626-2RS Ball Bearing 6mm x 19mm x 6mm

if takes a push to get the old ones out, but I can fit the new ones by hand.
