I've had my bikes covered on my Aviva home insurance for ages. The only problem has been that they only insured up to £1500 per bike. When I made a claim for some damage last year, the person I spoke to said I could actually cover the bikes up to their full value as named items on my policy.
Anyway, as I'm off to Centreparcs in a couple of weeks, I finally got round to tweaking the policy, only to be told that while they would cover my mountian bike up to its full value while in the house, they would now nolonger cover it at all away from the house. My cheaper road bike, which falls under their £2,500 maximum valuation is covered anywhere, but I couldn't apparently even claim up to that now for the Cotic. Sounds a bit unreasonable to me. Is it normal practice?

So, it now looks like I've got to find some specialist bike cover for my trip away, or just take my hack bike. Anyone got any recommendations?

Don't go to Centreparks - its Butlins for the 21st Century 🙂

What components do you have to take a steel hardtail over £2.5k!

And why do you need a £2.5k bike for center parks? Unless they've changed their business model recenly there are no trails?

This x1000000000

How very dare you even think about riding a bike that you've bought in an area that you want to ride. Your sort make me sick.

Thanks Poly. Keeps the kids happy. Haven't been to Butlins, but if it's like Centreparcs perhaps we'll go there instead next time and save ourselves a few hundred quid.

Thisisnotaspoon - It's a Soda. Centreparcs doesn't have trails, but it is right next to some nice ones, and I've only got one mountian bike. The alternative to taking it is to hire a bike there, but Rockadile might not be up to much on the singletrack.

TFO 🙄 😆

Fair enough, that makes it a bit more realistic!

Sherwood Pines? The hack will be fine, or take the Soda and watch it like a hawk.

Yeh, Sherwood. I think I'll take it and just get a very big chain. Protector ones look good, but they all look so bloomin' heavy.

Which would be ironic seeing as I'm pretty sure my m+s insurance is underwritten by aviva.

Got to stick with Aviva unfortunately. TBH I've been really happy with them in the past. Quick to pay out and flexible. I took the plunge and bought British Cycling insurance. I'm insured for racing now too, which given the state of a riding buddy of mine after the Thetford round of Mud Sweat and Gears last weekend is no bad thing.

Why?

As said M&S, they were great with my claim.

Last time I shopped around none of the other insurers would cover us as our house has had some subsidence at some point in the past.
