Even though you've used them on the road the SPDs on your mountain bike might feel quite different to clip in/out of depending on the shoe/pedal combo so I'd take it easy for a bit until you get used to them. Personally I'd go somewhere flattish, wide and without any need to stop suddenly for my first ride: I haven't ridden all of it but from what I've done linking together bits of "natural" riding the North Face trail isn't like that. 🙂 Depends how confident you are though.

yeah, wear all the (non fancy) clothes you possess and practice in the park 🙂

At the risk of starting a "What pedals for trail centres?" thread, I'd say you'll be OK. There's only the slippy boardwalk bit on Section 3 that might cause you concern, but you can always miss that bit out. The rest should be no trouble if you're used to SPDs.

My first ever proper ride on SPDs was round the North Face. Managing to do it gave me a massive SPD-confidence boost.

(Some of the boardwalk bits were very icy last weekend)

Me too, didn't have any problems apart from one stupid slow-motion attempt to stop and put my foot down.
