I'll be in Sheffield later andย I've just noticed it's very close to Greno Woods.
If I can get there in time, there's a teeny chance I might be able to take my bike andย fit a ride in. Never been before, what's it like and is it a good place if I only have around 1 hour?
Also, which helmet, regular trail or take the full face? I am no big jumper, not exactly wheels on the ground, just not very good and don't go big 😂
Been a few times before. There are lots of trees so if you're sending it I'd keep a full face. That being said I'm a mincer and have done it in a normal trail helmet.
Few things on Facebook about suron riding kids/teens trying to steal people's bikes and threatening people with knives. Also seem to be a similar number of people that say it's fine. I've not been in a year so can't comment.
sack off greno and do wharncliffe on teh opposite side of teh road. Thats full face territory (for me anyways!) wharncliffe is steep and natural gnar.ย greno is bike park. (i`m from teh south downs so gnar levels may be different if you are a local)ย
Good point above. I prefer Greno as I'm a mincer and can just roll down, son prefers Wharns. I've done the tamer stuff at Wharns and it's okay but I think you need to go fast to get through most out of it. And with my skill deficiency and no full face helmet it's not happening 😁
Also I think Greno is easier to navigate.
Wharny is miles better but you won't get anything done if you don't know where you're going and you've only got one hour.
Greno is easier and more accessible. You could hit all the trails in an hour but you'd be knackered.
I'm currently staying away. I mostly ride on my own and I'm not looking for a scrap with knife weilding scrotes on Sur-rons.
Greno is fine for an hr. Three trails there in total - dh3, steel city and pub run. Trail helmet is fine, no need for a full face. None are steep and all are rollable at whatever speed you fancy.
An hr won't get you much in Wharncliffe unless you know exactly where you are going
I'm sure i saw that 2 arrests were made last week in relation to the suron balaclava massiveย

That only leaves the other 900 of them out on the streets then.

Yeah Greno is good if you're short on time. I love it, cos it's easy. In terms of, easy to navigate, can roll everything, apart from the big gaps but you can go round them, can ride it all as fast as you like. It's just a fun place.ย
I've worn an open face helmet, but tend to usually wear a FF and push back up. I get too knackered if I ride back more than 2 or 3 times....
all are rollable
Ermmmmm id disagree with that! On steel city at greno there are 2x medium gaps at the top, then 1x huge gap and 1x drop at the bottom that are NOT rollable.
You can however ride around them. All except the last drop at the bottom it's obvious what they areย as you are on the track (so you won't get caught out hitting blind)
The two gaps at the top are 50 50 lines, meaning you don't have to do the gaps. The big gap towards the bottom is only on one line as the track splits into multiple options, a rollable tabletop is on the other, or you can take a very rollable line between them. The drop at the bottom isn't a drop, it's just a steep roll.
No.one should be scared about riding steel city, it's a very fun track for all abilities and skill levels. The difficulty comes when riding at speed
Yeah agree it's nothing to be scared about - just wanted to make it clear you can't go expecting to roll every single feature there and getting caught out nose casing into the side of a gap jump, is all.
