Help please.

I have my 650b and plus tyres tubeless no problem but I gave up with my nano 40's on the arkose as they appeared far too big for the rims (but fine with tubes).

I have just spent a fruitless afternoon trying to get my Clement XC LXV (29 x 2.1) tubeless on my new Vagabond - again the tyre appear too big for the rims. Wrapped 4 layers of Gorilla tape but still no luck.

What am I doing wrong?ย  Do I need tubeless specific tyres / rims?ย  Any recommendations ? Love the Nano's and the Clement's seem ok after a couple of easy gravel routes but open t suggestions for fast rolling tubeless easy tyres

Thanks

I'm sure my Arkose has had Nanos tubless on the standard Alex rims. In any case the last 3 sets of tyres fitted have been Panaracer Grabelkings set up tubeless with no fuss.

Some tyres can just be a bit sloppy on the rims and hard to seat; my current Kenda tyres are like this. In the end the only way I could get them set up tubeless was to seat them with a tube, break the seating on one side and remove the tube, then run a tyre lever horizontally under the broken bead to pull in up onto the rim bed before inflating and seating i with a booster!

It was a bit of a faff but they've been faultless since so it's worth persevering with the right tyre.
