I crashed my 2024 Specialized Crux and broke the frame. Everything else on the bike is fine, my ribs and shoulder less so. I'm healing, the frame is dead.
Specialized offer a crash replacement discount - 35%. Unfortunately they won't have any carbon crux replacement frames available until about October. Cost would be ~£1700-1800, not confirmed as prices may change.
My options
- Wait until October (at the earliest)
- An S-works frame, £2925 after the discount. Er, no.
- A complete bike with the same frame - the Crux Comp, £2275 after the discount. I'd then have a load of spare bits, but also the hassle of selling them all.
- Hunt around on eBay for another recent Crux.
- Something else.
I have the money. But I also have other bikes to ride, though I've really enjoyed the Crux. I've a 2010(!) Anthem which is perfectly fine if I want to go off-road, plus a couple of road bikes which are what I mainly use, especially in the summer.

Then in October when the new frames are available, sell the bike and get the frame.
I might also - very politely - enquire if Specialized might do you some sort of deal on both options since you don't really want to wait until October before you can ride again but the complete (lower-end) bike isn't your ideal solution either. Maybe there's a demo Crux in your size that they could "loan" you until October for example?
If you bought the Crux Comp would the spare bits be you're used ones or the new bits? If the new bike leaves you worse off on components then it's a tougher decision and might be worth a chat with Specialized if they'll do you a bit more of a deal.
But then, you also say you mainly ride other bikes this time of year anyway, so how many rides would you not do if you just waited on a frame? An October frame is also likely to be next seasons if that makes any difference.
If you're anything like me, you'll buy a new bike with the intention of selling the bits off the old one and then they just stay in the garage collecting dust. So I'd hang out for the frame only option and save the £500 and not have the clutter in the garage that I might sell one day ... maybe.
Good points all. Forgot to say the broken one is an expert, so much better bits. Spare bits would be off the Comp, the lightly used ones off the expert would be kept and used.
I am terrible at selling bits - getting the cheaper bike and selling that when the new frame came in is more likely than me selling bits, as it's only one thing to deal with.
How many rides would I do off road - I was using the Crux 2-3 times a week from January, but down to maybe once a week up until the crash 6 weeks ago. Given my injuries rigid off road will be out for at least a month. So maybe 10-12 rides? Of course, depends if they hit the October date.
It's my local Specialized Concept store who I have a good relationship with.

it probably makes most sense to wait til October for the frame only, especially if you'll only be missing riding it for 2 months or so (taking July out of the equation and assuming frame availability stays in October.
But if it was me sense doesn't always come into it 😆

I don't think I'm covered but I'll check. Definitely don't have specific bike cover, was too expensive for what I needed since everything changed with Pedalcover household policy.
Savings from not insuring will cover the cost.
An update... so a crash replacement 2026 Crux Comp (same frame) is cheaper than just a crash replacement frame. And it should be here in a week! Better parts on my broken one will be swapped onto the frame from the Comp.

Fit the new parts you don't want to the old broken frame, and report the delivery as damaged - Then you can sell the next replacement frame as a complete bike 😀

Old frame is going to the crusher in order to get the new, crash-replacement bike so no option for delivery shenanigans. It's already been inspected and written off.
An N+1 would be a good idea but I have too many bikes already - including a custom steel road bike. And a spare Red eTap groupset that's been sitting in a garage for a couple of years.
So - split the groupset to sell or do it as a package?
What's the going rate for a GRX groupset these days?

And what size chain ring / cranks / cassette?
To be confirmed, but should be a 40. It's meant to be this bike, spec on there but doesn't mention crank length. It's a 54, Sigma Sports say 172.5 for the cranks.
