Hi,

Spending a few days in Swansea, after exploring Gower, just spotted that big hill further North, Graig Fawr, on the map. Is it worth a trip over there? All those black dotted lines could be interesting.

thank you,

Gilles

There are indeed plenty of trails on the ground in that area.

The problem for me is that they don't really work as a loop (from where I live) and there isn't much that is particularly interesting to ride unless you are into long moorland slogs. Although you will find some nice wide fast grassy downhills.

One route that we used to do from my house in Swansea ran over Mynydd Gelliwastad up to the Upper Lliw Reservoir. You head west at the top of the reservoir and climb the hills taking you over towards Graig Fawr. By now, we'd be getting to the edge of our range and head down the Gopa valley (old mining valley, full of slag last time I was there) towards Pontardulais and home.

It's a while since I've ridden Graig Fawr so it's maybe worth an hour or two exploring to see if there is anything there other than hills, moorland and sheep.

Oh and a big cat was spotted in that area a few years back..... it's that sort of place.

And I should add that we have an evening ride from Clyne valley on Thursday evenings:

Come and join us - we'll show you some of the local riding.

I'm not sure if or when I'll be riding this week as I'm feeling distinctly under the weather, otherwise I'd offer to show you around.

Where are you staying (roughly!) and for how long?

many thanks for that - funny that's what I roughly plotted on the map! i'm off on sunday, so it was a quick week end, but I should be able to fit something. From Swansea I also can see that you are not far from Brechfa and I haven't done it yet - Maybe i should try that as well. Decision, decision.
