Hi,
I have a Garmin Forerunner 10. Whilst I was living in South Korea the connection to GPS was slow but eventually got there. The same when I was in other countries using it on holiday. However I live in Romania now and the GPS connection is TERRIBLE! I have updated it but still have the same issues. I am thinking of upgrading to the Garmin Forerunner 735XT with the hope it will better lock onto a GPS signal. I am not big into Strava and rather like the Garmin Connect interface.
I trail run, swim and cycle plus paddle when there is a chance to so not worried about using the full functionality. However, I would rather not have to buy a new watch and waste more plastic but the connection issue is pi@!ing me off. What experiences do people have of this watch?
Thanks for any input
Are you sure it is the watch? What surroundings are you in whilst trying to connect? Clear open areas or busy with concrete buildings or overhead foliage?
Suspect a GPS that connects to multiple GPS satellite networks might be quicker.
My Suunto has a gets updates when connected to a Pc on where the satellites are. When the data case is you date satellite lock is seconds. Typically I wait a few seconds for it to find the pulse belt and then the satellite is already done.
It's an Ambit3 run. It does outdoor swimming (this is hard for watches they use the accelerometers to know when you arm is our of the water and try and sink the gps with this). The sport brings swim metrics like indoor lane counting and stroke efficiency plus triathlons. My run was about £120.
Whatever you get make sure it has the satellite data base that thing
If you didn't know dcrainmaker is the website for this stuff
Thanks for the dcrainmaker suggestion. Very helpful.
The Forerunner 10 is a rather old model now, and yes it could be pretty slow to get a fix. It helps if you switch it on, and leave it somewhere with a clear view of the sky for a few minutes. On a window ledge can be good, before you go out. Doing a complete reset might help.
Just about any new Garmin would be a big improvement. Something like the Forerunner 235 would be good for running/cycling. Or the 735 if you want swimming/triathlon stuff. Or look at the Garmin Instinct.
