Currently running some coil lyriks on my sb66, pretty focused on weight saving at the moment.

The lyriks are heavy (2400g), looking at revelations WC (1700g) fox 34 (2000g) and x-fusion slant (2000g), there are some significant weight savings to be made (up to 700g).

The lyriks are lovely, responsive, stiff, composed, really enjoy having travel options.

However, i am most definitely looking for the moon on a stick if i want to keep the performance and travel adjust of the lyriks, whilst saving significant weight, aren't I?

The WC revs and x-fusion slant are taking the lead in my eyes as the least compromise in stiffness (stiffer axles and refined structure) and damping performance over the fox 34s. In my eyes the fox 34s are pants compared to the rest on offer, safe assumption?

Are the carbon crown/steerer revs stiffer and stronger then the regular revs?

grum - feels a little pointless to get new forks to save 200g. Plus they'd have to be floats, wont have talas, so no choice on travel adjust. Same goes for the fox 34s really, but 34s @150mm with there slightly shorter a-c will be a fit and compromise.

I'd rather have a sub 100g penalty than run a 32mm fork on a bigger bike like the SB66. Not to mention the shorter A2C & it's effects.

A riding pal has the sb66 carbon and went for the Bos fork, not sure on weights etc, nor performance as I've not ridden it.

Try looking at the Magura Thor forks, i was recommended these on a recent thread i started. ordered them from Germany for 325 brand new. still waiting on them being delivered but it gives you another option. ๐Ÿ™‚ From reading a litter of reviews they are lightweight and extremely stiff which is exactly what i was wanting. i too have coil lyriks which are I'm my mind as good as you can possibly get but to much of a weight penalty for trail riding.

The magura are an option i was looking at, i can even demo a set if i wish.

What puts me off is a colleague has had to rotate 3 sets between 2 bikes pretty much every week just to have a bike to ride due to little niggles that keep on cropping up.

Also a little wary of the dampers, in any which one you go for, it's only controlled by a shim stack in normal riding mode, no choice on external low speed compression adjustment. You would have to be very lucky to get the correct damping characteristic for your weight. Obviously you could get in there and tune the shim stack and eventually get it perfect and not have to bother with external adjustments ever again.

My take in on this was the opposite, the 34's are supposed to be great forks, much stiffer than the 32mm stantion offerings but without the excessive weight of the 36's.. Their real disadvanage being their price tag & maybe this years "CTD" option. Rev's are a great fork all the same, especially compared to fox 32mm offerings, but out classed by the 34's (apparently).
Where did you come across this opinion of 34's? (admittedly I'm looking at the 29er version rather than 26er/160mm ones)

Zippy - For 2013, fox have changed the air spring/negative coil a bit, they've altered air volume and lengthened the negative spring to make the forks more linear. A by product of this is that as pressures get greater, the forks comparatively grow in length to previous offerings, you end up with more travel and longer length. The way you travel adjust the forks has changed too, combined with the new spring layout, a set spaced to 150, with the upped pressure, will be more like 160s. The linearity can be sorted by adding oil though. It's the same for 2013 whether you get 32s, 34s or 36s.

The CTD damper too, i just see it as inferior to other offerings, not in terms of adjustments, less external adjustment, the more internal adjustment the better IMO. The ctd damper has lots of route options and passageways that i imagine will choke things, though i would have to try them. Plus i'd never use climb, descend doesn't have enough damping, so it'll just be put in one of the trail settings and left.

The shimano qr15 isn't the stiffest either, its just a 15mm tube with a qr holding everything tight, the maxle and sytace 15 are proper bolt through's.

IMO fox 34 chaissis + maxle + lyrik internals would be the bestest.

If in reality, if 36s are closer to 2100g, what's the point in saving 100g for the 34s?

I have some Fox 34s with tapered steerer, possibly swap + cash on your part? CTD, tapered steerer, kashima etc...
