With my new club less than a year old, our first 'proper' race season got off to a good start on Saturday.
9 points were picked up for a second place at Hillingdon yesterday.

Good to see that proper training pays off. It'll be interesting to see how the others do, as none of us train with HRMs, Powertaps or Turbos. We just hook up with known fast blokes and ride.

They're new riders so 4th cat. Our other rider was in some sort of interface with a dog on the circuit.

I'm vets 50+ so wasn't racing.

pinches, it was actually a 3rd/4th cat race. So a bloody good result.

Race two today and another 2nd place for the club. Waiting to see how the other team members did.

Looking forward to May when the second group of club riders start their season.

Our fourth man to race went tonight, 5th place.

Despite the problems on club runs we must be doing something right. Four members racing road, two 2nds one 5th and a 9th in just four races.
This old mans starting to feel the pressure to perform.

If this gets boring just tell me and I'll stop.

I should add that none of them have any race history, all first year.

Our rider in green looks like he has it, but just gets pipped at the post.

Sorry, none of you are "properly" training if you ask me, but wasting some of your training time.

Must admit I thought that!

You are riding, not training. Not a bad thing.

TBH I don't think it's necessary at the level we race. I mean what's it going to tell me, that seeing a rider ahead of you in a race isn't telling me already?
I raced tonight, the field was massive so I kept near the front. Then as soon as I eased off for a break there was a crash. After a short detour onto Fridays XC course I got back on waaaay back.
Then settled into a chasing group, again one of four on the front. We picked up riders and I eventually eased off. Only to encounter a rider that decided to pack mid bunch. Blood was spilled, I stayed up but had skidded to a halt on the climb, so game over.
I feel fresh as a daisy. No amount of technology would have helped tonight.

if you'd trained with it, it would have made you fitter.

Can we just for once be supportive of someone having fun on a bike ?
Bad luck on the race keep spinning however you choose to train

Good stuff, now go and buy some expensive training equipment and do some "proper" training to see if you can improve on that.

Wasn't me that won DS. We got a race training group going at the start of the year and it was a younger rider from that group. Regards the technophobe comments,we simply based our training on the words of Mike Olheiser. Ride short distances extremely fast and long distances very fast!
Seems to be working

Just want to shout about this as well. Today we hosted our very own road race, a proper full on open road 2/3/4 race. Quite a scary undertaking, but British Cycling are amazing with the help. And the guys from the National Escort group do a great job of keeping everyone safe

I did my chief marshals bit then shot off to Milton Keynes to race round two of the central league cyclo cross.

Oh, Jack is part of your club? I think he's going to be training with us over winter. He'll need a HRM, our coaches train us using HRMs.

WE got some sponsorship for 2013. Put a little squad together, trained together and today we got a 1 2 3 at Hillingdon. Only a 4th cat race, but pretty good.
I wasn't racing.
