Hi.

My home insurance is up for renewal. I’m currently with Bradford & Bingley but the renewal has gone up quite a bit. Bikes were covered upto £500 with them with the expensive ones being listed individually.

What over providers offer good insurance for bikes that are £3000+.

Thanks

Pedalcover have always been great for me. Not that I've had to claim yet, but prices are good and they actually know what they are talking about when it comes to bikes

BARCLAYS. I pay 0.4% PA to insure mine. Which is around a tenth what I paid the year before.

Do a price comparison site by all means. I found when I did it, despite declaring the bike value some of the cheaper quotes had clauses about bikes and a max value of £500

just be sure your getting the cover you need.

Our house insurance is with Esure, 3x>£5k bikes, engagement ring, camera and several watches all listed individually and insured home and away for around £600 PA. Did it through some comparison website or other.

Have used Pedalcover in the past, really good, know what they're on about but you do pay a premium for it.

Do you?

I pay £200 a year with Pedalcover for that value of bike. Obviously your other bits may be loading the premium, but then Pedalcover isn’t a factor.

We just renewed ours with AA, Good price and good cover for bikes in the Garage. For a bit extra you can cover for your bikes Europe wide. Worth a look. Pedalcover did not reply to our inquiry.

Just looked through this thread and decided to compare the meerkat. AA came up with a good price after specifying the bicycles including away from home also. I'm going to talk to them this morning to understand the finer details but I'll probably go with them! Cheers!

This.

Many of the cheap policies that 'cover bikes' limit to £500, won't cover in outbuildings or unless locked with gold secure lock etc etc.

I've a colleague who had this a couple of years ago. She asked 'are my bikes covered?' and yes was the reply. She got nothing as the bikes were in a wooden garage, which was classed as outbuilding and the padlock was not some certain type. CX and two posh road bikes with DI2....

We are with Pedalcover. Unfortunately we've had to make a claim from an outbuilding for bikes and other garden and household items generally found in a shed/garage. No problem at all and it all went through smoothly.

PEdal cover for me. Was with John Lewis who after a very lengthy conversation said bikes would not be covered if stolen from back of van even though locked to van seat frame as not considered an immovable object. However they would be covered if locked to a lamppost as that’s immovable. You may pay slightly more but their certainly seems to be no nonsense.

Just had two bikes stolen off the back of our van. Lloyds covered that no questions asked, and paid out more than the values they were covered for because they priced them up as more than the cover amount. Was very impressed tbh.

Just renewed ours.  Now with Aviva.  Looked at PedalCover but the cost was way out.  Aviva will cover away from home etc and only needed to know the value of the most expensive bike.  Everything under this is then covered.  Seemed too good to be true, but I called and checked.

I have just got a quote from Halifax that covers listed bikes up to a total of £10,000. About £350 for building/contents/bikes. Had the same cover last year with Lloyds.

Cant tell you how good they are though as not had to claim...

0.4% of the bike's value?  Was this just normal Barclays insurance then or what?

I need to change my policy as I'm paying a fortune for posh insurance that includes bike cover.  It sounds as if it's a lot easier to get cover than it was 10 years ago.

To revive an old thread - anyone have and use Aviva contents insurance?

I'll need to ring up and check but quote online is ridiculously cheap in comparison to the renewal quote from M&S.
