Thinking about trying tubeless after two outings on my new bike i've had two flats ๐Ÿ™

Few questions if i go ghetto are either these two methods preferred

20 inch inner tube method

duct tape method

What tyres are good sealers looking at all round tyre as i don't change often, do any tyres work ust, folding, wire?

Are the systems stans or DT swiss better worse than ghetto?

i'm using DT5.1 rims both front and rear.

Do I need at compressor?

thanks for any help ๐Ÿ™‚

Just used 20" tubes here

for which tyres see http://www.justridingalong.com/content.php?pid=529
(Maxxis are great)

a garage with a non-digital airline does a good job, never succeeded with a track pump.

I did 6 months without punctures using ghetto. very impressed

Used Stans and DT (Eclipse) - Stans is definitely superior. You don't necessarily need a compressor - CO2 works just as well.

20" method for me.

No punctures for months until I was DHing my 456 at Innerleithen and ripped the rear's sidewall, spewing Stans all over the place. Patched up and popped in a tube, shame the tube was in the car though and I had to walk down the rest of the way.

Apart from that, Ghetto method worked a treat.

Front is still up and I haven't put any more air in since I went Ghetto about 4 months ago.

I tried ghetto on my 5.1s, I bought some tubeless rims in the end as I got annoyed!

I run cut down 20" tubes & artshop latex & track pump! ps track pump is do-able but a total frustration at times, but i'm too big a ****t to organise simple co2 ๐Ÿ™‚ tried Maxxis/schwalbe/Halo on Mavic 771's and recently on Spank Subrosa's (which btw are a dream for ghetto)

JRA

The recommend Maxxis, but I managed it with Kendas and a track pump.

Very good result. If you use wheel milk, remember to top it up every 3 months - I forgot and recently got my first puncture in 9 months. When I put the tube in (keep one in your bag), I had to remove 6 thorns, all of which had gone in and healed without me noticing.

So, no thorns and you can slam your bike at mental speeds through rock gardens without pinching.

I used 20" tubes and a CO2 canister for my back tyre. Got the front done with a track pump. Exactly the same set up so I'm not sure why one would work and the other wouldn't.

I'm not convinced having had a crash tonight caused by loss of tyre. See the thread below

Used stans kit on dt 4.2 and 5.1 rims with spesh captains/eskar 2bliss tyres and bonty mud x's too. no problems inflating with track pump but 5.1/eskar combo was easiest, initially had to use a co2 pump on 4.2 rims but got the knack now and don't need it. Captains run between 32 - 37lbs pressure any lower they tend to roll. Eskars good down to about 15lbs! No punctures all year, won't go back to tubes.

ive used a few methods on different rims . Stans strips on stans worked great with maxxis tyres. Dt strips on dt rims took ages to seal and work it was the rim strip and value causing problems again maxxis tyres finally working but wouldnt use dt strips again and finally ghetto with bmx tubes on mavic 321 with schwalbe tyres worked right from the off better than the stans to be honest. All seated with track pump no problem

One of the main reasons is

So, no thorns and you can slam your bike at mental speeds through rock gardens without pinching.

But I had been wondering about changing my wheels for a while for a few reasons, one of which being that I hated changing tyres on the 5.1s; I found it to be an utter pain in the arse.
