How do you guys wear goggles when riding in rain or muddy conditions?
I find the when it rains it's too hard to see with goggles on as they do t clear well enough and when it's muddy, even with a front mudguard a few splashes in the lens make it really difficult to see and impossible to clean without making things much worse.
Keep them dry until you need them for the descent, in a small plastic bag or similar. When using them wipe with paper towels/kitchen roll not the bag when wet. Get a bigger mudguard.
Give up and wear glasses...
Unless wearing a full face, in which case put the open face on and wear glasses.
Goggles and winnerore faff than they're worth.
I have completely given up on goggles unless there is an uplift.
As soon as I finish a run, on the back of the full face away from the vents, give a good clean at the top and repeat.
Every time I've tried them with out an uplift they have fogged and stayed fogged.
I sweat a lot.
On an uplift day stuff a handful of blue roll under your peak. It'll get you a few good wipes before it's saturated.
I've been using Bolle Tryon anti scratch/anti fog. Tenner a go. If you lose/reverse the car over/or misplace them its no biggy.
Scott Prospect goggles with the pin-lock style enduro lens to stop the fogging, and one pocket with wet wipes, one pocket with dry wipes.
Safety specs are a couple of quid. Get a tissue, rub washing up liquid onto the lens. Fog free, cheap, effective. And most importantly, they work.
Went on a Police motorcycle course and the instructor swore by Mr Sheen polish spray on his visor.
If the trails are just wet, then I carry a mirco fibre cloth and clean as required. If it's chucking it down, then it's a loosing battle.
I have a crud guard XL which is ugly and rattles a bit, but by god does it keep the ming out of your eyes.
Agree there's a tipping (it down) point where I don't bother with goggles or glasses.
Got to have a very good front mudguard though.
Double glazed lenses (or whatever they're called) = zero fogging.
Some of the guys swear by Mr Sheen but it makes the eye sting a bit though.
As good as double lenses are, you’ll wince at every scratch
True that.
That's why I try to hose off any dirt & not touch the lens on the trail. Only used them once on a very wet day on the new Queenstown trails & they worked way better than anything else.
But yeah, all goggle lenses scratch too easily.
I’ve tried smith ‘rip and roll’, tear offs and even gaffer taping an old lenses to a full face to elongate the visor MX style, in the end I just accepted that lenses will get scratched and bought cheap aftermarket versions from then on.
