Anyone ridden there?
Looks like a big bit of forestry commission waiting to be explored and it only about 20 miles from where i stay.
I can see fire tracks on bikehike.co.uk weaving through the place, anyone know if it's worth a look at?
Not heard of it, google maps can't find it.
Interesting tho, always nice to find new routes near glasgow!
odd!
Try this when searching on goggle maps (should work)>
Glengavel Reservoir
South Lanarkshire ML10 6
Weather permitting i'm heading that way tomorrow, if it's any good i'll post something about it.
Found it now. Didn't know dungavel was so near strathaven!
Nice one 2tyred. Will keep an eye out for that!
As you said - always good to find new tracks! Got a day off tomorrow so might as well put it to good use, fingers crossed that the skies don't open again like the past couple of days.
Was out today for a quickie round the local loch.. The downpour meant the dogwalkers all scarpered and almost had the path to myself..
hi,
did you make it round for a wee nosy, anything worth while, as I stay up in EK, so only 16 miles away

Hi, yep, went for a look, might be worth a bit more of an exploration. Saw a horse rider and a couple of other bikers but it seems to be mostly fire tracks. Lots of climbing but nice fast descents.
Only problem is it seems that you have to back track on all of the fire roads as none of them link up so you can enjoy a nice fast run down them but have to face a bugger of a climb back up.
Haven't had a look at the side where the loch is just the bit around Powbrone. Google map it and select pictures - it's the ones with snow in them!
Might go back for another look sometime, if anyone else goes for a look see, let me know - cheers!
A friend and i explored the area about three years ago with the idea of cutting some trials from the top of the fire road climb back down to the road at the loch.
TBH it looked better on the memory map than in reality. Very boggy ground for such steep terrain.
I'd be up for another look.
I grew up just west of there (Darvel). Did a few rides in the forest abin Dungavel Prison as was.
The moorland out that way is as supertacky suggests - very boggy! I used to be able to ride there a few times a year when it was baked solid, otherwise it was just depressing. Plenty of dull fireroads to cover ground quickly, but not a whole heap of (ridable) singletrack.
I was glad to move away in riding terms!
EON have a wind farm due in the forest, there is plans for massive amounts of felling etc to accomodate...
