Glen Feshie Blocked By Landslip

There has been a fresh landslip at the narrow part of the glen south of the bothy.ย A route from the Feshie through to Glen Geldie and Braemar/Glen Tilt.

I was through with my hardtail in March this year. At that time I needed to make two trips across the landslip. One with my bags and one carryibg the bike. One handed at bits while holding roots.

Seems there has been a big new landslip. Chris Townsend didn't even fancy walking past it. So it may be impassable with a bike. At this point the only alt is fording the river. OK at low water. Impossible in spate.

dammnation.ย That bit leads onto some nice paths heading from Geldie into Feshie

Sctroutes and I tried to open it up a bit after the original landslip a few years ago with some success.ย I wonder if the estate will do anything with it or does it need a few folk to take spades up there and try to recreate a path?

@tjagain - this bit is a little further North than the landslip we attacked (which could be avoided by double-fording the river). The best way past this newer one is by heading down the left bank (West side) of the glen, past Feshie Lodge, past the turn off to Tromie, and ford the Feshie there. It's a wide crossing so definitely an issue, and impassable at times.

Ta.ย further south?ย We were almost at the head of the glen.ย I'd better have a look at the map

Edit - just had a look - is that not the same bit we did?ย confuzzled

Oops - my bad. I meant further North. As you're heading South, it's before the path splits off to ford the Feshie, hence the high ford beneath Craig na Caillich being an option.

Apologies for the slight threadjack, but you're probably the folks to ask; In heading up toward Carn Ban Mor I've used the path from Achlean a few times, but I end up pushing a good chunk of it. So the question is, would the track that leaves the Feshie opposite the Carnachuin Memorial be a more rideable route? I seem to remember there was a 'landrover track' mentioned in a conversation a good while back, perhaps that's it? Trying to avoid bog snorkelling if possible.

I'd like to keep north of Tom Dubh once I get up there, and head north east for Braeriach.

We cycled up it in the summer to get up to Sgor Gaoith. It is a good track all the way up to the plateau - you could drive a landrover (probably my Octavia) up there no problem.ย

It's a beast of a climb on a pedal bike and I may have pushed bits. The eBikers in the party loved it!ย

Photo shows the track all the way up.

The landslip that started this thread has been "stabilised" and the route is currently passable. We'll see how long it lasts.ย

@chives - that's the "classic" route, up that track and back down direct to Achlean. There's a good track all the way but, as Euain says, it's a long uphill drag and I've never managed it without a rest. The track that then wanders across the plateau to CBM is lovely. On a clear day the views are amazing.ย

I'm sure I'd be quicker pushing than frequently stopping, but then again I'd also be quicker if I didn't have a bike to push 😂

Cheers for the responses! I cut my plan short & ended up doing Sgor Gaoith again this summer; had hoped to follow the corrie around and get across to Braeriach, but hadn't figured how long it would take me to get over to the Feshie from Inveruglas. Was unfortunately 'on the clock' as had to pick up the family later in the day. Came down via the path that starts in the dip between Sgor and Carn Ban mor. There's some big holes in the peat further down eh?

That 'classic' ascent looks much better, from a lack of steps/water bars point of view. They're what always sees me pushing! Will try that next time for sure.
