I'm trying to compile a list of classic tunes covering the mid 90s, that is 1993 to 2000. I'm not so interested in the indy stuff because that seems to be the only stuff I remember from the period.

Not interested in cheesy dance but some mellow trance / indy dance(?) stuff is what I'm interested in my trip down memory lane.

So far I have been youtubing Dubstar, St. Etienne, Phats & Small (Turnaround), N-trance (set you free).

Suggestions much appreiated

Not interested in cheesy dance, but Phats and Small - Turnaround is on your list? 😕

Also Set you Free was certainly not late 90s.

Maybe it is cheesy dance...I'm out of touch.

Youtube reckons N-trance is 1995.

I guess its an open question fro good tracks but no grunge / indy please.

Ta

Jam & Spoon Tripomatic Fairytales

And not one you'll probably not know but very much of the era and worth a listen - Union Jack's "The will be no Armageddon"

Samples of it here: http://www.discogs.com/UnionJack-There-Will-Be-No-Armageddon/release/42861

Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
Air- Moon Safari
CJ Bolland - Electronic Highway
Portishead - Dummy
Bjork - Homogenic
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
Daft Punk - Homework
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
Sven Vath - Accident in Paradise

Mostly towards the end of the 90's I think

Daft Punk. Fantastic first album, proper music. Then turned into lame girly shitface ****ybollocks **** pissshitecheese top 40 cackness, only enjoyed by moronic losers with limbs missing.

One more time indeed. Height of their lameshiteness period.

Heh, the OP likes that stuff tho, so maybe I should have listed a later album 😉 Da Funk was one of Laurent Garniers signature tunes, some of my fondest memories stem from hearing that pitched right up in the back room of Club UK, almost pitch black with sweat dripping from the ceiling. And knowing he'd be playing for about 8 hours more:) 🙂

RichPenny - wouldn't disagree with any of yours. Que Club was where I spent my Saturdays, although I first heard Sven Vath at the Orbit.

Daft punk annoy me though..Brilliant first album (and Alive), then they turned into some sub Ettiene De Crecy nonsense...

(Mr MC posting)

if you accept the mathematically correct assertion that the '90s ended in 2000 (we count from 1 to 10, not 0 to 9, hence 2000 wasnt the start of the millenium it was the end of the last....aaaand breath) then a dance tune I cant stop playing is "She Does" by Quivver.

Also CJ bolland's Analogue Theatre album; The Prophet and There can be only One all bring back good memories of throwing shapes.

Primal Scream-Xtrmntr
808 State
Crystal Method-Vegas (US version of orbital/underworld, tunes widely used in adverts of the time)
Curve-Come Clean
12 Rounds-My Big Hero (these last two both girly vocal electro rocky stuff ala garbage etc, curve produced by tim simenon)
Mansun-Attack of the Grey Lantern and the brilliant and underrated Six.
Massive Attack and Portishead shouldnt need mentioning.

most of my music collection is '90s 😳
