...I've dropped the price a fair bit over the past few weeks...and don't want to split....

If I'm asking too much, where should I be pitching it??

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/whyte-19-full-bike-bargain

...I think the bits would sell for a fair bit more than the price I'm asking so......is it just the recession is biting??

Fork would put me off, probably irrational but people want/like what they know.

Doubt you'd get more than £350 for it, maybe £400 in the summer.

Looks like a good deal to me. It's amazing what won't sell.

But by breaking it up you will sell... The market for brakes, forks, frame etc etc is much bigger than the market for a complete

Well FWIW, I looked at it today. I think it is a great price. I would have had it if I had the money in the bank. I will post on on my FB cycling page if you want ? Perhaps it's the Mavericks that are putting other people off, but they would not bother me.

I thought the Maverick's would be a selling point!...they are a lovely ride (wooer!) and I haven't had any trouble with them.....

Get rid of the plastic bits hanging off it and photograph again

You could always try sneaking the ad onto the main forum under the guise of a help needed thread?

Oh 😉

As Charlie says if you split you will sell majority of the kit easier

Mavs are attractive to fatbikers as they can fit super wide tyres

Yeah well I said I'd have the forks/wheel and I paid you for em and then you refunded. I'm sure you have your reasons.

Another name to the list.

Seems a reasonable price to me but you will get more or sell it more easily by splitting. Linking to the old ad rather than cutting and pasting is pretty daft. Sneakily putting an ad in the main forum is pretty clever 😉

Pics are crap, take some during daylight. Remove the mudguards and bag.

Forks put me off straight away. Also the non matching hubs.

Split,won't take that much time.

I offer the following comments as an observation on presentation rather than as any sort of accusation or any slur on the character of Velocipede as I know he's been around here for a while having read several of his posts.

If I saw that bike presented like that on EBay (for example) my immediate thought would be 'it's hot'. The reasons are several:

It just looks odd, the flat bars and flat stem, the Kona grips, the mudguard and saddle bag, the mis-matched seat pin... it looks like a bike that's been grabbed from outside a shop and shifted rather than something that's being presented for re-sale.

Similarly the fact that the frame seems to be far cleaner than the components attached to it, the wheels and hubs in particular looking like they could do with some proper cleaning.

The photographs also don't help. The flash photography inside has conspired to create an image of something that's being hidden. The concrete floor, the blank background...all you're missing is Joseph Fritzl! The angle of the 'side on' photo, try stepping back (so you don't chop bits of the wheels off) and crouching down so you don't create an image of you looking down on the bike but rather looking AT it from sideways on.

Finally the description. It's all 'there'...but it lacks detail. Was the bike built from scratch or have you upgraded as you went along? How old is the bike? When did you get it? Is any of the kit 'as fitted when new'? What's it like to ride?

I'd like to re-iterate at this point that I don't mean to cast aspersions on anyone's character, I'm just trying to show how the presentation could be altered to make the bike look more appealing.

Posts like this piss me off. Mainly classifieds poster, thinly veiled attempt to increase audience for their overpriced/undesirable item!

Linking to a previous address is a no no. Copy all the text into a word doc BEFORE you submit the ad, then when you want to post the ad again just copy and paste all the text and you're done.

If you think the maverick forks/wheel are putting people off I'd be interested in swapping them for my Magura Menjas and mavic X717 on XT hub?
Been after a set for my ML7 for a while now.

The big no sell to me is the fact that you have been honest as you should be and mentioned that it has a dent in the top tube towards the back end of the tube-for me an instant non seller or if I were to buy it, it would have to be a seriously cheap buy.
My take on it as for the rest etc no comment.

Harsh.

Also with that P on his name I suspect that what his posting history lacks (ooooh, like only a third of his posts and threads started are in chat/bike) he makes up for over you in financial contribution to the running of STW plc. 😉

FWIW I spotted it a while back: if it was a size bigger I would be well interested.

Why would post on a thread they thought was an unreasonable advert, it just pings it to the top

To the OP

My experience of sued bikes us they all look like a bargain until you actually want to buy one. Then you startthinking about what you actually want and the sums stop making sense

eg the forks look great value but I just wouldn't buy them as they are an unkown quantaty, for me

Spring may well be a better time to sell than skint January with snow over most of the country

Clean it, take photos in day light and get down a bit lower so you are not looking down on the bike. Get some detailed shots of the important bits that wear out - fork stanchions, drive train, hubs etc

I wouldn't worry about the different hubs or the seat qr.

I think a bit more narrative about the bike - how long you've had it, why you are selling, the frame condition, servicing history for forks, brakes, drivetrain and hubs etc.

Or just stick it on fleabay

I own one of those frames (07 I believe) and accidentally added my comment to your for sale post rather than here. Doh, and apologies for that - a genuine accident.

People don't want components that are a couple of years old, the brakes, forks etc. We tend to want the most current versions of everything as we're told that's the only way to guard against servicing or spares availability 🙂

If this thread really has that effect on you, you need to have a talk with yourself about whats important in life.

If you CBA splitting for the forks, whats that 5-6 bolts to undo? how quick are you going to post the bike?

You're really not giving out confidence to buyers that you'll post the bike quickly. If you are advertising stuff for sale be prepared to post ASAP.

I sold stuff yesterday and it was posted today before 10 am.
