[Closed] Ghetto tubeless - it's all gone wrong for me

After all my previous successes going ghetto tubeless, I've found a setup that I can't get to work resulting in wasted evenings, a pile of empty CO2 cartridges and a garage splattered with soap suds and latex.

B0110X 🙁

I now have sympathy with all the others on here that have tried and failed.

Out of interest what was the setup?

WTB Speeddisc rims
Schwalbe 20" tubes (removable presta valve)
Maxxis Advantage 2.1 Wire
Wheel Milk

Just could not get the tyre bead to seat on the rim enough to inflate - damn it!

Have you tried inflating them with a tube first then carefully removing one side of the tire and the tube, reseating and then reinflating without the tube. This removes at least one side being unseated.

Did that make any sense?

Advantage on the Mendips Buzz? at this time of year?

Nutter!

Tried one at the end of last year and it just filled with slop very easily and didn't clear well.

Good dry to intermediate tyres though.

Mine went up after an overnight shaping exercise with an inner tube on a spare rim. Its a kevlar bead one. Odd really, since without a rim strip, I can only get steel bead maxxis' to inflate. Except advantages that is.

faux - when I summon the patience, I'll try that.
officer - it's the usual story, I like not puncturing and having more grip

freaky, ive recently done an advantage and while it inflated fine, i found it flat and off the rim two days later.
in an emergency i popped a tube in there for a ride, which promptly punctured (slow)
its currently sat in the garage covered in mud, flat as a pancake, out of shape with a pretrimmed ghetto strip hanging on the wall

Can't see how you can do that with ghetto

You need to work the tyre to get it to pop up on the rim
It's easier with a compressor but you need to pash the tyre in to try to get the initial seal

I have to say using a compressor has made tubeless a lot more bearable, CO2 cartridges must be a right pain to use on a leaky tyre.
Mines a cheapy £40 one I had off Fleabay, goes up to 100psi and makes an unholy racket when filling its tiny reservoir, but it will get just about any tyre up and seated double quick…

is your speed disc rim not drilled for Schrader valves? I tend to use 20” Schrader tubes where possible, as the cores are easy to get out for squirting in latex, and they don’t need to be retained with a locking ring to stay in place…
