i want to get bike fit again over the winter. entered a few events next year as a aim, so need to get sorted.

winter commutes are my favourite, and a few touring weekends with my wife are planned.
but what to do to get proper bike fit, ride and ride some more, or try a more scientific training regime?

any help greatly appreciated.

Vague question deserves a vague answer.

It depends.

Strava, if need be create a mix of short and long segments on your commute route(s).

How much fun are you willing to sacrifice from your riding time now?

Coming back from a long break after injury you are probably going to have some muscle imbalances.
If it were me i'd take it pretty cautiously for the first few months, just building a nice base of easy riding. Plenty of time to build some top end when spring rolls around.

Daily commute with a few longer weekend rides is a perfect plan, unless you are seriously into racing at peak performance. But I'm guessing you aren't, at least not for the time being..

just get out and ride and see where you go... literally and metaphorically

I think it depends on your current level of fitness. Riding more and more will increase it to a certain extent but you might get to the point where you're riding so much you just feel tired all the time and don't make anymore improvements. If thats the case then rid less often and add in some quality interval training.

I struggle to find time to ride more than once or twice a week outside so started doing 45 min HIIT sessions on the turbo twice a week and it made a big difference.

Diet and lose as much weight as possible, less weight to push up the hills and you'll be faster and fitter.
