Pondering replacing my 07 Jake, and like look and price of the Vapour disc.
I don't race, but use the Jake for winter road, some light offroad here and there and some touring, with a big Carradice SQR seatpack.
The Genesis is new Tiagra vs the Jake on old 105. Big plus is the disc brakes.
Any thoughts ?
You've not mentioned the 'getting past the wife factor' though. 😐 Particulary as you have just bought a bike...
Road discs are OK but my experience of them is they are better in very wet conditions but not as good in the dry as well set up rim brakes.
Dunno if this'll help, but I've just been picking a replacement for my Kona Jake. I do a lot on the road on it, and even in the dry the canti brakes I have are terrible.
So anyway - I've got a new 2014 Boardman CX Team, with a couple of discounts, for £730.
This is about what I've seen secondhand Vapour Discs (and Boardman CX) going for on ebay - and the spec is arguably better.
Cha****ng - I was looking at that Boardman thread too. I don't like SRAM though, so kinda rules it out.
Pistola - aye, a bit of persuasion will be required if I change, not sure yet if it's worth the money to update..
