I'm trying to work out which Garmin best suits my needs & I like the sound of the round trip function, where you give it a distance & it offers a choice of round trip routes - sounds ideal for riding in unfamiliar areas.
Anyone got any real world experience of using this function?
It seems to only be available on the 820 and 1000 models, but I could probably get away with a lower spec model for the rest of my needs, so want to be sure this feature works in real life!
Cheers
I use it on my 820 and find it really useful.
Pros
You find new routes
It's easy
It saves doing the same loop
Cons
I find it can pick busy roads that I don't like riding on (fast single carriage A roads)
As a result of the above I have to try the route function twice sometimes to get a route I like (even though it picks 3 each time)
But it is one of the reasons I bought it and glad I did. Screen and base map on the 820 are decent too
Thanks Rob, sounds like it's worth going for.
I'd agree, it's definitely worth having. I've ridden places I never knew existed right on my doorstep and it's great for when you go on holiday - you can find a good circular route without having to know the area, and it gives you choice of 3 routes.
In my experience, I'd say it avoids busy roads.
It also works on the mtb profile on my edge 1000 and can calculate an off-road route, too, but I've never actually used it.
Got a touring and as above. Will do off road or on road. Will pick major roads sometimes. I just make my own bit up from maps on my phone to avoid those.
