Hello,
advice with the garmin Edge 500?
I did have a 705 a few years ago and cant quite stretch to another or 800 but what I want to know is can I create a route on sites such as bikehike /bike toaster and use it to navigate a ride with?
I understand the 500 has not actual mapping but will be a breadcrumb format with arrows ...Does this actually work?
Any input be great
Cheers

If you dont need heart and cadence get the 200. I have one, you can create routes and follow them. It gives you directions and a line to follow.
The route navigation on the 500 is pretty poor, I've never managed to get it to work properly.
If you have a look on the Garmin Forums there's endless complaints that the function is as good as useless. Apparently the processor isn't powerful enough to run the navigation or something like that.
The 800 on the other hand works fantastically well. If you look at somewhere like Handtec you can get some good deals on the 800 without the cadence or HR bits.
If you arent going to use HRM or cadence, surely you are better getting an etrex 20 or similar?
I used my 200 to follow a road route last week. It worked fine. Screen really too small but the black line shows the line of the road you should be following and it buzzes (only once though) if you take a wrong turn. Wouldn't use instead of a map, and suspect off road it might be harder to follow. AFAIK the 500 shows routes exactly same size and format.
You can get a 705 unit from handtec for around £180 with the HRM. I'm hoping to treat myself to one on payday.
Just about to hit the button on handtec 705 great prices, read some reviews though on their service and not so sure now ?
