Hi People,

I'm hoping someone can help me here? I need to know what type of front mech I need for my 2010 714. All the forums I've checked seem to say e-type, but here is my photo of the e-type I got (2012 XT 10 speed) and there is no way the mounting points are lining up with the mech!

<img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7265/7098863633_6e9c653317.jpg" width="500" height="374" alt="photo">

Which one do I need? All help much appreciated!

Thanks

I thought E-type had a BB bracket (Item 6) that your mech attaches to.

I cannot see any XT mech that appears to fit your 2 bolt spacings.

You remove the plate that goes around the BB and use the fixing holes to locate on the frame/swing arm

PaulD Thanks, but I didn't thinkIng needs the plate as it has the mounting bolts

TrevorB, I think that's what I'm trying to show on my photo, the mounting holes on the frame a far wider than the two on the mech?

I don't think either of those are the answer? But thanks!

Hi paL you have the right mech you just need to take the small plate off the bottom and it fits direct on the frame have the same problem with my spicy three years ago. Can't remember if the screws are on the back but their defo there

Hi DaveB,

Thanks for your post but unfortunately I don't think it is right, I've added a couple more photos of the e-type mech, there is no way there is any part of that that is going to come off, it's all riveted together and a solid plate

This seems to be close to what I need,

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=55242

As it has the two mount holes far enough apart, (about 40mm) but it's SRAM, and given the original bike supposedly came with an XT front mech, Shimano must make one?

Thanks Dave,

Turns out there may be some kind of Lapierre bracket that converts the two frame mounts to the same size as the Shimano ones, and I'm missing it 🙁

Had a similar problem a while back, replacing a SRAM double mech that we'd given up trying to set up, with a Shimano jobby. As you've just found out, we had to fit a different mount, and remove the cable stop adaptor for the SRAM set-up.If they'd chosen Direct-Mount type mech's rather than potching around with bodging two different manufacturerers takes on E-type mech's then there wouldn't be a problem.

£20 for that bit of metal!

What about if you use the E-type bracket along with one of the screw holes? E-type should always use one of hole on the frame to stop the deraillieur rotating.

edit: just realised it will be push fit BB won't it so definitely direct mount. £20 is ridiculous.

dpiddy - it's the complete SLX front mech, including mounting bolts and (I assume) plate - it bolts straight to my Spicy frame.

Hi George, reckon you could send me a photo of the back of the mech? David_paddon at hotmail.com

I don't really need the mech though, but if it's right I'm sure we can come to a deal.
