fancy/need a GPS with OS mapping - what do you recommend?
or are there any others that also do OS mapping?
Only have experience of the Satmap but it is very good.Had it for a year now with no problems.Back up from Satmap is very good and they keep you updated with software updates.I,ve seen a few reviews saying its too bulky for mtb use, but its been fine on my bike, using it on the Exmoor bike marathon last week and the Brecon beast tomorrow. Also one review (MBR?) said the screen scratched easily but this is a replacable item so not a problem (I,m on my second).
I've used the Satmap and the Oregon and if actual navigation matters to you, I'd go for the Satmap - bigger screen, easier to use, does the basics better, more affordable mapping.
There's also a new unit about to come out from Lowrance, but it's more Garmin like than Satmap like and has an even smaller screen.
If you do go for the Satmap, get the rechargeable battery pack. Other options are ViewRanger on a smartphone or Memory Map or similar on a PDA - apparently - or on a GPS-enabled phone with a Windows operating system.
The 'screen' on the Satmap is actually a screen protector, so you can just swap it over. Oh, and a little bird tells me that there's a new, slimmer version on the way, so you might want to hold fire for a month or two. Same size screen, thinner front to back.

excellent, thanks.
one of my mates has a satmap - it's really good (for me, following)
I don't think it's ever lost its fix, even in shitty weather & dense forest. He does sometimes nearly crash through looking at it too long while riding along but I suppose that shows you how clear the maps are
hmm looks like I might go for the Satmap then....
