I’ve got an ancient Garmin Edge Touring GPS and have used the Garmin Connect website to manage the device to upload new courses. However I’ve not used either the GPS, or the website for that matter, for quite some time, it still works although the battery isn’t as health as it was.
My questions. Logged on to the Garmin Connect website, the black side bar is now just black with coloured icons and a small arrow, no headings. If I hover the mouse over where the headings should be I can see the web address in the bottom left corner of my browser screen so can just about navigate to courses.
I can scroll through my saved courses, but as soon as I try to send to device the collapsed black side bar bounces open and I end up clicking a blacked out link from the side bar. I can’t get the black sidebar to stay open.
All of my courses show on the main screen but without any displayed maps. Just a white screen with a wiggly line.
I’ve tried every browser I can think to use, they are all the same. Using Mac running Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera.
I can barely navigate around the site so trying to troubleshoot is proving almost impossible.
I’ve been thinking of buying a new Garmin GPS unit but if this is how Garmin expects me to manage it I’m reluctant to say the least.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I “think” I may have hit that arrow to collapse the menu, I know can’t “un-collapse” it. The menu pops open whilst trying to click it.
The menu pops open before I can click that arrow. It’s bloody annoying.
can you not sneak up on it from the right with the mouse?
Odd. That seems like it's a browser issue but, given you've tried a few, it must be something else. I mean, it's working fine for me, with all the correct labels being shown and the sidebar expanding and contracting correctly, so it's not something inherent in the website itself. Can you open the website on your phone?
Sneaking up doesn’t work.
The Garmin Connect website opens and functions as it should on my iPhone. Unfortunately I can’t connect to my Garmin Touring Edge, it’s USB only, no Bluetooth.
Very frustrating.
Sounds like a browser problem. Try closing down the browser (including any other tabs/pages you have open) and performing any browser updates. Then try again.
Does this only happen when the device is connected or does it happen when disconnected. (Not that the device should change how the browser acts....)
What version of Windows are you using?
I’m a Mac user. So no windows. It’s all up to date, running the latest versions of everything. Happens with or without my GPS connected.
As an aside, I was out on the bike today and tried using my Garmin. It struggled to acquire a satellite, then was directing me in a circle to start the uploaded course. Eventually it kind of followed the planned route although it was always 20m away from the path. At one point the faster I rode the slower the read out was saying I was going.
Time to buy a new GPS unit.
