Did a sportive last weekend so Garmin (800) was "on" (on the map screen mainly) for around 5.5/6 hours I guess, in which time the battery had gone down to about 30% from full. Can't imagine I'd need it on for much longer than this really but seem to recall people bandying around battery life times of much longer so wondered what anyone else had observed?

I get 11hours out of mine. Check your screen brightness and turn off all of the sensors you don't need

By screen brightness do you mean backlight? Mine is set to be off unless anything is pressed (presumably default?) so for the majority of the time it is not backlit but yeah maybe my backlight setting is too high will check cheers.

You can change how bright the backlight is and how long it stays on for. Playing with both of those should help.

I did an 8 hr ride yesterday and had over 50% left, I think they quote 15hrs off a full charge

You can also use an external battery pack, but the USB cable has to be the correct type, otherwise the Edge goes into PC mode.

Thanks all - will try with the backlight off totally I think - makes zero difference in normal daylight conditions anyway, the screen is perfectly viewable.

Map screen uses more battery than normal info screen I find, especially if following a route. Using more processing power I guess.

My back light is on all the time to make it more visible, hated having to squint at it.

2h40 today and it went to 83%, so assuming that's accurate it'll do 11 hours or so at least even with the light on.

I got 13 hours out of mine today with 27% left. No backlight use and virtual partner turned off. Not bad I thought

I get about 8.5 hours, with a 2 minute timeout on back light - this comes on every ten minutes or when I touch the screen. I also run a powermeter and cadence sensor.
