Dave, what happens if you want to put the car in there?

I think the time is ripe for me to buy some power tools though. First man task for the weekend sorted then.

How did you make that board and what did you use to fix it to the wall? I have no power tools and will have to rely on borrowing some from a mate.

Job 1
Buy power tools.

Job 2
Buy more hammers.

This was the intial mock up of how the tool board was going to look.

Sheet of ply probably bought from BandQ and cut to size by them in their big machine.
3 coats of paint.
Fixed to wall with screws and used cups to make it look nice.
For a reason I don't know why I also cut down some copper pipe as spacers to space it off the wall a bit.
Lots of little nails for hanging stuff on.

A quicker and possibly cheaper way is to buy a kit that comes with a peg board with holes in and hooks you can move about.
I thought this way looked neater. Again not sure why when you see the rest of the mess in the garage ;0)

Yellow walls are good. There's something rong about Samuri's.

So today I will be purchasing a corded SDS drill, a couple of vertical bike hooks, measuring the garage and devising a layout that I think will work, and then ordering some peg board. Let me know your recommendations please!

I think the missus' roadie single speed can be consigned to a wall bracket for now.

Pretty excited about how this is going to turn out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Car doesn't go in the garage unless I go on holiday, it's primary use is BIKES, and socialising post evening rides with beer from the fridge and some tunes on

painting floor needs to be done at a warm time of year also which is why i didnt do it when i moved in - february.

How come?

I'm getting a new place in Feb and I know if I don't paint it before I move in, it won't get done. If I go ahead anyway, will I die? What about if I burn a shit load of dinosaurs and have a halogen heater on in there while it's being done/drying?

read the paint instructions.

if the floors cold(thats floor temperature not air temperature) it doesnt bond propperly and is prone to peeling.

HELP! I have gone and ordered a Hilti drill.

I blame my American mate for pressurising me into visiting the Hilti shop near work.

Oh well, at least my kids will be able to use it one day. Now I wait until it gets to me tomorrow and the peg boarding can begin!

Cant help but notice not many people seem to have much in the way of security on the actual bikes in any of those pictures. No locks or even floor security rings etc. Based on reading the theft threads the impression is more security than bikes but none of these appear to have any at all!

Thts because first rule of bike security is dont show your bike security.

For storing tools - tool board or tool box...?

I'm currently a tool box user, however I'm considering mounting the more commonly used tool on a board...

im a tool box fan. keeps the tools clean.

if you use a board - your tools get manky just being there if you use the garage for anything other than just tinkering with bikes.

i have a set of allen keys mounted on a magnetic rack on the wall - they get covered in all sorts of dust from grinding/filing/drilling.

stuff in the box stays lovely and clean.

Good point. Unpainted floor and unfinished walls are a recipe for covering your kit in dust I reckon.

So, after the peg board goes on the first order of business will be to put a door/cover on it!
