I find myself near Dalbeattie for the next week and, assuming the ice sods off a bit, I'll head out for a night ride a few times at some local trail or other. I might get out through the day but I'm not sure.

Just posting this thread to invite anybody else who wants to come along and sweat off the bread sauce. It'll be nowt scary/technical really - just general whizzing about in the dark.

Will be watching.
Might we start from town centre car park, do Town Wood paths and back for a beer ๐Ÿ˜†

Already planned a ride on 31st after work, 6.30 for a 7pm start.
There is a ride @ Ae on the 1st, see Ae bike shop web site.

I'll go for a run tomorrow to see what the tracks are like at Dalbeattie. Looked too icy yesterday.

I'd like to do the beer thing but I'd need to arrange a lift of some sort or bike back to Castle Douglas afterwards, probably via the Haugh or something.

I've forgot my ruddy helmet as well so I'm keen to avoid any falls on the ice. :O)

You've lost me. Is Friendsandfamily a shop or something? :O)

Trails look like death on a stick, folks. I'll shout if I'm going but it doesn't look good for the next few days.

I work at Ae Bike Shop but not a bike shop owner. Would have lent you a helmet gratis with some I.D as a deposit.

Night ride from 7 tomorrow (tuesday) at Kirroughtree. Trail head and fire road sections are slippy as hell but the singletrack and natural sections are in good nick

Corserine was it? Would I have to take the crampons out of the boot to get up do you think?

PS - thanks for the offer, F&F. Much appreciated. I'm going to see if I can get some studded tyres tomorrow then I might take you up on it.

Thanks for the info, fotheringthomas. I'll have to get some hillwalking done because I haven't been able to find a bike shop with studded tyres for sale around here and I'm bored.

Mabie this afternoon;

[IMG] [/IMG]

Car park road was sheet ice.

4 cars in front of me got stuck on the hill up to Mabie House.

I turned round and parked on the verge ๐Ÿ˜‰

Met 2 guys who were staying in Mabie House who had turned back!!

On my return to car road had been gritted.

Still sheet ice from shop onwards. gets better ๐Ÿ™„ after the first section of singletrack.

Gordy If you fancy Mabie tomorrow afternoon I have a spare helmet??? Night shift tonight so any time after 12ish.

I have a pair of 29er studded tyres in stock at Drumlanrig if that's any use. Trails up here are very rutted and icy for the first half, but the second half of the red is good as most seem to have cut the route short along the race route finish. Rik

Trekster - I can't do tomorrow until about 8 pm. That any good? I don't normally bother with a helmet anyway but it struck me as a good idea on ice.

Rik - as in 29 inch? No use but thanks. :O)

So you will not want the one with all the dents in it then โ“ ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sorry 8 is too late, gotta be up for 5 and bike to work.
Will be at Mabie 31st for 7 tho if rain/snow/ice does not frighten the gang into to the pub.
Next outing likely to be the Ae shop 1st ride and then the guys from work are planning another outing @ Ae on the 4th.
