We're up in the fylde area soon, based near Blackpool airport, and would like to do a couple of days road riding on the tandem. We're not looking to cover huge distances, we normally aim around 40 to 60km with up to 1000m climbing

I've found the excellent Fylde coasters route list, from which I can easily adapt routes to give me a starting point from our location rather than from Poulton itself, but any advice about specific routes which might be nice would be appreciated

Or, if you have any other suggestions, that wouold be great too. Cheers

Can you see this route?

Basically, if you head out towards elswick, Inskip etc then ride around the lanes there, you can add as much distance as you like. It's pretty much flat though.

But if you just go a little further and cross the A6 you can venture into the trough of bowland and get a few hills in.

The other option is to head over Shard bridge and ride "over wyre."

Or ride the length of the prom. Or head down to Lytham then out around wrea green.

There's options!

Edit - thinking about it, best bet from near the airport is probably to ride along Clifton drive through st.annes to Lytham then out to wrea green and then all those lanes and villages are out there.

Cheers, I can see that route but I think 49 miles is at the top end of what we might aim for. Will have a scout out towards wrea green on Strava heatmap and see what I can find

One very enjoyable route is to go south east from Clevelys to Wyre Estuary Country Park where there's a good little cafe. Then either along the coastal path (cheeky and muddy) or through the lanes to explore the fascinating marina at Skippool, very photogenic with lots of rotting boats. Thence over Shard Bridge and though the lanes up to Pilling, (complicated map-reading) then pick up the sea wall at Pilling Embankment or follow the lanes along to Knott End (another cafe) and take the foot ferry over to Fleetwood and continue right round the sea front back to Clevelys. If the wind is blowing from the SW do it clockwise and if from the NW do it anti-clockwise to enjoy a free push along the coast. Big views, sparkling sea, nice flat route.

From Pilling you can extend to Glasson Dock, another cafe, and even on up the old railway bed into Lancaster, there's a nice cafe at the beginning of the railway track.
