What sort of riding do you want it for, budget? xc/trail I think the Pivot Mach429 is a good bike. Can be used with a 100mm fork or 120mm if you want a more relaxed HTA. If your after something for more AM then the Turner Sultan is a good bike. Both of those bikes come in at around £3000-£4000 depending on build, TBA never ridden either but they would be what i'd buy if I wanted an xc or trail bike. Specialized make some good 29ers which work out a bit cheaper.

Look at Niner, Santa Cruz and all the other top spec! If I was building a full sus 29er, I would go for the Niner WFO 9££££££££££££££££££££££££ unfortunately!

My vote is for the Spesh Stumpy FSR

Efficient, short CS's, slack 🙂

salsa spearfish look like quite a light bike at a reasonable price.

Jonny, just finished an Ventana El Capitan build. Lovely bike, seems ideal for me, I am 19stone and 6'3", and it doesn't flex a jot. Halo rims good, spin doctor rear hub sh*t and replaced with hope proII.
my precioussssss

In looooong choosing process, my thoughts were as follows:

As above - off the shelf goodness = spesh/giant

good, XC 100mm and good value: salsa spearfish

same as above XC+ 100mm, more pricey: pivot 429

in the middle 100-120: Tallboy

bit more all round trail (expensive)120mm: Ventana El Cap, El Rey, turner sultan, Foes B29, Niner RIP9

what I also wanted, 140mm so needed new forks and stuff so too pricey: Intense tracer T29, Niner WFO

that was my short list, in no way complete. I wanted to build myself (and frankly be a bit niche 😳 ) so not interested in giant/spesh etc

Have fun choosing!

Kev

How you liking the RF JC?

Spearfish is looking interesting - weighs the same as the Tall Boy for a bucket load of cash less
