So I have a lovely 26" fillet brazed custom ( not for me ) mtb frame.
The frame was designed around a 2.4" tyre with a 302mm BB height:
I'm looking at making a tourer type bike using the frame. I'm no stranger to "hybriding" a 26" frame but it's always been for shits and giggles rather than anything serious.
Will a 35mm 700c wheel upset the handling by making an already heigh BB even higher.
Clearance wise there is oodles as I can fit a 2.4" 29er Ardent in the rear with clearance for mud!
Rough calculations suggest a 10mm increase in BB height. I think I calculated a 20mm change in overall height of the wheel.
Has the snot clouded my thinking, is this a silly idea, does it really matter?
Road riding? Won't matter.
Actually it won't matter much off road either IMO, riding gods may disagree!
The problem can be mtb hub spacing can be different to roadbike hub spacing, Mavic used to make a wheel set with 700c rim/tyres and a mtb hub so you could run disc brakes and the hub spacing was correct,
They were called speed city's iirc..
