Does anyone know if there's enough space to get 2.35" Nevegals on a Spesh FSRxc? (Wife wants to get some for her bike, but chainstay clearance looks pretty tight to me)
Cheers
2.35 will be very very close, i ran some 2.10s and got a very small buckle and it started rubbing.
i have a 2000 year frame, not sure if the newer ones are a little wider.
its a xc bike y 2.35? i run 2.0 on mine
what year
I've got the 09 model and I'm currently running Fire XC Pros in 2.1 guise
I just measured the gap between the edge of the rear tyre and the edge of the chainstay and it was just over half an inch
Soz for delay in reply. The bike's an '06 model, the type that have the shock going through the seat-tube.
I think I've sussed my wifes tyre/wheel plan. She want to 'simply' take the wheels of her hardtail (which have tubeless 2.35" Nevagals on)and stick them on her FSRxc - you can guess who'll have to swap the rotors, sort the caliper alignment etc etc.its a xc bike y 2.35? i run 2.0 on mine
I did suggest just converting the existing FSR wheels & 2.1" tyres to tubeless, but she insists that she wants to keep 'em tubed, so that she can swap the tyres over to her mud tyres without faffing with tubeless gunk (yep, tubeless 'faffing' is another one of my jobs 🙄 )
2005 owner.
2.35 Nevegals fit, but i would only use them in the driest of conditions assuming the wheel is tru and the tyre seated perfectly.
IMO far too big and draggy for the rear.
browser fail.
Mine's an 06, I thought there wasn't enough clearance with the original 2.1s fitted, so I use 1.95. They work fine and I wouldn't want anything wider, but I'm a bit obsessed with mud clearance I need LOTS.
Thanks for the info. From what's been said it sounds like a bit of a gamble. She wants to swap over to the tubeless wheel/tyre combo for a holiday in France (after years of tubeless scepticism, she's a real convert to 'em). At the moment the trails are s'posed to be bone dry, so fingers crossed mud won't be an issue.
I guess it'll be a bit of a weather dependant gamble - as long as it's not me doing the frame de-clagging every 5 minutes.
Thanks again for the feedback.
I bought some Spesh Enduro tyres for my trip to Spain earlier this yr.
Fitted them while packing my bike so didn't bother checking they fitted the frame......erm.....they cleared the rear triangle by about 2mm or so. The bridge on the seatstays now has no paint where stones were pulled through & scraped it to bits.
I bent a spoke when I fell off that bent the wheel very slightly. It was enough to push one side of the tyre into the stays. I had to deflate the tyre to get it to stop rubbing before finally admitting defeat & swapping to a teeny 2.0 Larsen TT.
That's on an 01 Stumpjumper FSR.
stumpy01 - Hmm, ta for the info., I hadn't thought of that. Given that my wife has a bit of wheel bending history, it looks like the 'fat tyre' wheels are gonna be a potential headache. Glad I checked!
TBH, if it wasn't for having our funds cleaned out by ongoing house renovations, I'd treat her to some 2.1 Nevegals. I've found a nearly new Bontrager ACX that'll keep her rolling for now though...if I can get it on the rim that is 😕 ....er...now where's the washing up liquid
