[Closed] Front mech spacer shims

On a shimano front mech is it essential to fit the little metal bits in the spacer shims or can you get away without them?

You only need them is the frame isn't big enough. They're shims - geddit?

I don't think thats the question he asking.
Inside the platic spacers/shims are metal 'inserts', he's asking whether these are necessary.

I dunno, but fitted em on the last mech I installed.

z1ppy -> I was thinking they are necessary bit the mech hasn't moved during initial "testing", but it's a mates bike so I don't want it slipping and getting mashed in the chain rings
