[Closed] Front mech issue for 2x9 setup

I am struggling with the front mech for my carbon 456. I am trying to fit a top swing top pull XTR mech, but the cage is coming into contact with the chain stay, as soon as I try to lower the mech clamp to get the normal 2-3mm clearance from the outer chainrings.

Any ideas?

Dont worry about the clearance if it works ok higher up, lower it as much as you can and see if it works.

If the mechs normally for a triple chainset you don't need to lower it to 2-3mm for your 2x9 setup. I set mine as if i had a 44t outer ring and it works fine with a 26/36 chainset.

as above, just set it up as low as you can with a mm or 2 of clearance off the chainstay.

Or get a double specific mech like the SLX M665/667. Smaller, neater, lighter, tracks the shape of the middle ring better, contains the chain better to prevent drop.

Removed my outer chainring to convert a triple to a double. Found that if I lowered the mech down from the 44T setting (with the 2mm gap), then it dropped the chain when moving off the 36T to the 26T chainring if I was in the largest rear sprocket. So moved the mech back up as though I had the 44T chainring still on, all OK again.

I used the bashring to 'fill' the gap between the 36T chainring and the mech. Did try an XT double mech but seems it wants to index too far over. Thought maybe the double cranks may have a slightly wider distance between the chainrings than the triple. Or maybe I just set it up wrong.....
