Help!!!!
I'm building up a new (to me anyway) bike (it's a Marin - beard: check. sandals: check). Front mech cable routing goes under the bb. I haven't got a bottom pull mech in my spares box, and I think it's a pretty dumb place to run it anyway, so any bright ideas on how to make it top pull? Can I get bolt-on cable stops, for instance?

I've done similar with a DMR cable roller. Little clamp with a free spinning wheel on it. I used it once to fit a conventional swing mech onto a full suspension frame just because I didn't like the top swing type mechs that should fit to it.

Got mine from CRC if I remember correctly.

Not having a pop, but making an observation really.
I never understand why people have problems with BB cable routing. Every bike i've ever had (6 i think) have had under BB cable routing and its never caused a problem. The front mech is sprung strongly enough to overcome any muck that gets down there.

Tempted to agree with bigyinn. If it's running through a guide (front or rear) rather than housing, they the much gets washed away as easily as it gets sprayed there. It also makes for much cleaner lines on a HT frame.

Even the hole in the bottom bracket shell where the guide clips in is useful as it lets the water drain out of the bottom bracket.

Thanks for the comments - maybe I'm biased because I've never tried the bb option.
Then again comments like 'The front mech is sprung strongly enough to overcome any muck that gets down there' don't fill me with confidence!

What i meant was the mech is not really affected by crud as they are sprung strongly

You're going to get a far far superior operation using the down tube cable routing than a bodged top tube routing!

Bodger? Bodged?!? Depends how it's done, doesn't it?
