Why are the bearings so expensive??

Which headset should i go for if i want cheap and easily available bearings.. I have Hope on my proper bikes but this is for the commuter mountain bike.

I wanted to change the bearings on one bike and it was £12.50 per bearing. I can get a new headset for £25!

I'm thinking Cane Creek S2/S3

FSA XL2 headsets are pretty durable, Merlin have them for £21.95, bearings are I think £8 each.

The XL2 on my 456 has been on various bikes over the last 4 years and I've only recently had to change the bearings and I think I only had to do the bottom ones.

Where can i get bearing at £8? Sounds promising.

I took a headser bearing to Spen bearings and they said they'd never seen owt like it.

Personally, I'd much rather pay a bit more for a headset and not have to bother getting my hands dirty changing bearings. 🙄

Chris King, install it once (better for your frame than swapping headsets in and out!), clean/regrease it occasionally (all user serviceable), it will last forever, just add a little preload if it wears, and ALL spares are available if you ever need them (highly unlikely).
