Hi Folks. I'm i the proccess of setting up a new set of fox 34's. They came shipped with 5 volume spacers in them and i put the reccomended PSI in them (150-180as im 80kg). tried to cycle through the travel and its very stiff. I'm thinking of dropping to 3 spacers and dropping the air pressure.. What are other people running with these or similar fox forks?

thanks

Did you equalise the negative air spring or just pump them up and found them to be stiff?

That sounds like a lot of spacers and a lot of pressure! I'm 73kg and only use 1 spacer (140mm travel). I'll check the pressure and report back, but I'm sure it's somewhere near 80psi.

I think you may have confused the psi with the rider weight in pounds.

https://www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?m=bike&id=1081

Rider Weight Air Pressure
(lbs) (kg) (psi) (bar)
120-150 54-68 58-68 4.0-4.7
150-180 68-82 72-82 5.0-5.7
180-210 82-95 86-96 5.9-6.6
210-250 95-113 100-114 6.9-7.9

Sounds like they just chucked the spacers in there so they don't get lost in transit. I've never heard of someone using 5 spacers. Do fox have an online set up recommendation like rockshox? (sorry, don't have fox forks, but have 1 spacer @ 74psi in my lyrik)

Is it a 120mm travel 34? This site suggests a 120 ships with 5 tokens.

That is a lot of pressure, I’m similar weight and run around 85 psi if I recall (definitely under 90psi).

They were 120mm bought new and i changed the air shaft to a 140mm. Looks like i must have been getting mixed up with rider and psi.. After reading the comments I'm thinking of going down to 3 tokens and 85psi and taking it from there..

I took all the tokens out, ran 85-90 psi and they were still too stiff at the top end. (2021 27.5 Performance, where as my older 29er are perfect)
When you've got the lowers off, I think they're worth checking there's not too much grease blocking the vents (around 7:10 in this video -

)

2 or 3 tokens max for a 140mm travel one. As above, my 120mm ones shipped with 5 tokens as standard. I reduced them to 3 tokens when I upped to 130mm travel and they felt so much better.

'desperatebicycle, there was a lot of grease in there from factory blocking the holes so removed some of it. tRemoved 2 tokens so now running 3 with around 85 psi, feels so much better! thanks for everyone's input.

I'm 100kgs and ran 4 spacers in a 120mm 29er fox 34.

Does anyone else remove a spacer in winter.

I have fox 34 and weigh just over 80kg. I took two spacers out and the fork was transformed into a much more compliant fork.

Edit: leaving 3 spacers in.
