hey guys i'm hoping you can help me on this one, looking to buy a new (used) shock for my Patriot 66, it's currently is running 2 different shocks depending on what riding i am doing.

normal set up is a RP23, 195 eye to eye, this gives 5ish inches of travel at the back wheel (basically makes the bike like an overbuilt Orange 5)

morzine set up is the original manitou coil set up, 215 eye to eye, giving 6 inches of travel (i also swap to a longer fork)

what i'm currently looking at is a slightly newer RP23 to give a little more travel for morzine as this year i'm not gonna be sitting on the downhill stuff all the time but want the extra travel while retaining the ability to climb where needed, the frame can accommodate different shock lengths with the slider plate being swapped and i have both options of plates to fit both shock lengths.

i have found a shock on ebay that seems to fit the bill, rp23 high volume boost valve, 215 x 57 so it's the same length/stroke as the coil shock so i know it will fit alright but the difference is that this shock has boost valve etc. i have found out what the differences are that the boost valve makes, basically a better shock rate in the mid stroke.

what i can't find any obvious info on is the different internal settings and what difference they make for a given design, like single pivot, vpp etc

the shock i have found has a boost valve setting of 175, and is listed as boost valve "A", what do these figures mean? these are the things i don't know about.

STW forum, i will drink from the fountain of your knowledge! ๐Ÿ˜€

oh and fyi, i'm going for a used shock as my rp23 could use a service (although works fine) and i have found a shock that is basically the same price as a service, makes sense to change i think, especially as the one i have found has "just been serviced" etc, worst case i have a spare.
