[Closed] Fox R36 Float Forks - Sheared damper side bolt 🙁

I've just been replaciing the wiper seals and oil on the Fox R36 Float Forks. I didn't use a torque wrench and have managed to shear the damper side bolt (15mm).

I will ring Mojo when their service department opens on Monday morning.

In the meantime, does anyone know how serious this is? Is it likely to be terminal, or will Mojo have some spares?

Any thoughts welcome. Thanks.

It's easily replaceable, but you do need the correct shaft clamps to do it, to not damage the damper tube when you clamp it to replace the base valve assm.

Thanks LoCo. A job that I could do? Or LBS or Mojo service department?

Been there done that on my 32s. Feel your pain it's a real sick in the pit of the stomach moment. Just get them off to loco. Bit contrary to what your doing in saving money on servicing but hell do a good job with specialist tools for not too much money. Put it down to experience and get a torque wrench like I did (horse stable doors and all that)

Great advice thanks. Will remove the damper asap. And I guess it looks like I need a torque wrench after all...

I did the same and mojo charged me £50 to put it right (this included postage of the whole fork and a bit of a service as well).

Hope that helps

I've bought a 32mm socket for a fiver and have removed the damper. So I just need to send the damper off for repair.

I will contact Loco and Mojo tomorrow for a quote. Hopefully I will be able to re-fit it OK without anymore problems.

Thanks for your advice guys, much appreciated!

🙂

Would you not just use loco as he has been on advising you?

I've used both loco and mojo before and out it this way I will never go back to mojo.

Loco gives a level if customer service that can't be matched.

Spoke to Simon at Loco today, he has sorted my damper out. Really nice chap and excellent service from LoCo. It cost £38 inc the postage which i thought was very good, cant recommend him them enough. Why bother with Mojo & TF !

Cheers Simon 🙂

I was there when he did the repair, after seeing the effort he put into removing the broken part, I can't help thinking you'd have been recommended a replacement damper if you'd gone elsewhere.

I did the same 🙁

My "fix" was to just use a self tapping screw threw the old nut and into the hollow centre of the damper shaft. 😉

Mine are old 06 TALAS RLs so I'm not that bothered. If they had been something nicer they might have been worth repairing properly.
