Fox Float 36 set to...

Just about to start building my new bike and was thinking of a set of 36 Floats set to 140mm, has anyone used them at that travel? Also does anyone know the a-c at 140mm?

Why what? The forks will be used on a Ti 140mm HT.

the stiffness of the 36 is much better then a 32 float.

I'm contemplating running one at 120mm for my hardtail.

a-c of a 36 is 545mm so i'd guess 525mm, as it's only a spacer.

thought about doing this myself, let us know how it turns out.

What are you doing to need that much stiffness on a hardtail? Most people use 32mm floats or F-series forks for 4x doing masssssive stuff. Biggest hits I've ever done are on 32mm forks, not my DH forks, no issues. Surely you'd ruin the handling of a light hardtail with a heavy front end.

I read that the ac height of a 36 set to 140 is the same as a 32 float 150mm, I think its 525mm (ish)

The 36 floats are under a lb heavier so not going to trash the feeling of the front end. they are noticably stiffer, whether you need the added stiffness is another matter

I had MOJO reduce my 36 and they put in 10mm spacers
But the fork will stand at 160 before sitting on the bike.

Thought about doing this myself. After blowing the internals on my Pike (with Push) many times in the last 4 years I figured something a little more beefy was in order... but in the end I ditched the hardtail (for the moment) and put the 36's on a full bounce.

I would be tempted to try the Fox 4X fork whatever it's called...

i run lowered float 36's on a dialled pa. they are set at 130, and im not sure of the a-c but it worked out about the same as my pikes set at 140mm. I think they are great forks and have used them on both my xc and dh hardtail. Admittedly, over kill for xc, but fun to plough through the rough stuff.

really? i know someone who had his lowered to 100mm and it changed the a-c by 60mm

don't the spacers go on top of the negative spring side. reducing travel and a-c?

A-C at 160mm travel is 545 so you're looking at 525 at 140mm.

32 150 is 520.9 so no real noticeable difference, other than the stiffness.

Oh... my 36's Floats weigh less than my Pike Coil Team's did... and nobody comments on them being too much fork for a hardtail ๐Ÿ™„

PS. I really rate the 36 Float RC2. Best fork I have used.

Depends on how heavy you are. Most 4x racers are not exactly heavy, maybe 75-85kg? If you're 100kg+ you will put far more stress through the fork than an 85kg pro 4x racer without having to try very hard. I've tried the 32s and put them through some serious abuse but they were just too noodle on heavy landings. I am 100kg even without riding gear.

hmmm i don't know these forks but is it possible that the travel limiter wont alter the a-c? Won't the fork just not drop as far under full compression?

Pinched from someone over on MTBR forum who got a response from Fox.

Yes reducing the travel will reduce the axle to crown height. You will have an axle to crown height of 545mm at 160mm of travel and 535mm at 150mm of travel.
The Float 36 fork is the only travel adjustable fork in the 36 family besides the Talas which has 3 fixed travel positions, the Van is not travel adjustable.

Evening, you can reduce the travel of Van 36's, but this involves cutting the spring down, which also affects the spring rate, bit of a faff job though.

Even I thought that was weired But the fork
still measures 160mm in length.
The same has what a guy i ride with he had the same thing
done to his 36r and his is the same.

i don't disbelieve you, i just think it's odd. maybe mojo put the spacer some where else to reduce travel without affecting a-c?
i've lowered some marzocchi forks exactly the same way as the video and it alway affected the a-c. which is what i wanted.
