Sorry if this has been done before but I currently have some Pikes on my Blur 4x, and while they are ace I fancy being able to raise the front end further for DH duty and get the BB a bit higher / head angle even slacker. Anyone tried both forks on the same bike? I'm wondering if the Fox forks at the 100mm setting will still get the front low enough for normal XC compared to the Pikes?
Pike @ 140mm Axle-Crown Hieght is 518mm
Fox 36 @ 160mm Axle-Crown Hieght is 545mm
So
Pike @ 95mm Axle-Crown Hieght will be 473mm
Fox 36 Talas @ 100mm Axle-Crown Hieght will be 485mm
So 12mm higher
you can also use a bit more sag in the 36's, and they'll sit lower?
but tbh I do find that the 'ride' suffers when I talas down (150mm 36's)
Ok thanks - any one fancy a swap? ๐
Had pike u-turns on my 5 then changed to 36 talas. Overall everthing was better...mostly because i could never be arsed to wind the u-turn down so just rode at 140 all the time. Love the 36s as i can just flick the lever and change depending on if its up/down/undulating...
...but i would make sure you get an '09 on talas as before they were less than smooth.
i tried running 36's on my 4x a while back. its fun on fast open rough stuff but i found the pike suited the bike so much better, it just felt a bit too high at the front, slightly clumsy and wandery in steeper, trickier stuff. i tried it primarily to to raise the bb a little rather than add travel or slacken the already slack angles out and it really didnt make that much difference, it just didnt feel as balanced as before. id see if you cant try some out before you splurge any cash.
Thanks all - slowrider were you running the 36's at full travel or were you able to wind them down? I'm still getting used to my 4x as I've not had it long and have been riding single pivots for years previously, so its all still a bit odd what with VPP and all.... Perhaps I should just try to find a cheap-ish set of 36's to use in the Alps when I go and use the pikes for the UK.

I also own 454 Pikes and....coil uturn Lyriks.
Sell your Pikes and get a set of Talas 36's. They will do everything you need on your 4x. I have two sets of forks partly because I always seem to break forks (not through coreness- no idea why- weight/earths ley line around me?) so need a second set as backups.
I found my old Z1 FR150s were absolutely amazing on my old 4x- higher fork/length.
Go for it.
