Have started to get tennis elbow in my right arm and don't do much else other than ride the bike - I ride with bar ends (ergon GX2 on one bike, X-Lite stubbies on the other) and think that as I have them relatively straight it may be causing the problem. Anyone got a similar problem or advice for a solution? (other than raising the elevation, and I've tried ultrasound and really want to avoid steroid injections!)

I had the steroid injection after putting up with the pain for 4 months. Tried everything, strong anti inflammatory (on prescription), exercises, resting. In the end I gave in and had the injection. After a week the pain was gone and 3 months on it hasn't returned. The injection is bloody painful as they inject into the affected area. It hurt for a day or 2 before returning to the usual pain.
Knowing what I do know I would have gone for the jab much sooner.
What he ^ said about the injection. I struggled along with various remedies until eventually giving in to the steroids. If was ****ing sore. I mean really, really sore. Just after I had it done, I banged my elbow on the car door. I was on my knees in the Scotmid car park, crying. My daughter couldn't work out what was wrong with daddy 🙂
Having said that, after a couple of days, the pain all subsided and it has never returned (this was several years ago). If I was to have TE again, I'd just opt for the jab right away.

mine took ages to go and its still not 100%. but its no bother cycling
I suffer with it now and then , but with me its to do with my job , lots of repeatition work holding very thin sheets of cold sheet steel .. doing the same thing 100`s of times an hour !
Have found that wearing a strap just under my elbow , done up very tight and pressing on the tendon really helps alot ..
They do specific straps for this purpose ... sorry cant think of the name ..
Have considered the injection myself as sometimes it gets so bad i just want to cry 😳

I've had TE for two years. Had the full range of treatments. Rest, Physio, Ultrasound, Injection by GP, injection by specialist (that hurt like hell, but worked perfectly for 3 months) but it then came back with a vengeance.
Had surgery on it on Monday. Unable to use right arm for at least a month (off work) then 3-6 month recovery period. Probably off the bike for 3 months 8-( Can't do any bike fettling, can't even get out and take MTB pics.
Not what you want to hear!
Initially go for total rest, lots of daily icings, then try the exercises suggested.
Believe me, you don't want to go down the surgery route.
I also have it to a lesser degree in left arm.
Seems things start hurting more at a "certain" age.

I suffered really badly from TE a few years ago when I was racing motorbikes [all that frenzied twisting of a stiff throttle!] and it didn't go away when I switched to MTBs. I tried the clamp thing which you can buy from medical suppliers and it worked wonders, within a few months it went away, never to return. Obviously I was lucky but it is a cheap andsimple thing to try first but if that doesn't work, go to the quacks.

My local physio tried a combination of IR, ultrasound and acupuncture. Worked really well, all sorted in 2-3 weeks, personally I think it was the acupuncture

Your tendond work much better when warm and stretched. So use insulated lycra arm warmers when excersing doing physical work.

Had TE for over 2 years & being a stubborn/stupid sod I thought it was just part of getting old(I was around 33 at the time),doing manual work for a living so just put up with the pain.Then I changed jobs(still doing manual work) & it went,that was 11 years ago.So I'd say try changing bars or altering the way you grip them to see if it helps....

been of work and bike fof 6 weeks now due to T.E have had a T.E release as they call it , bloody sore , still sore now , got to see doc on wed , had injections every 3 months for 2 odd years , the pain just kept chip chipping away , slowly grinds you down , go and have the injections , yes they hurt, but to be pain free its worth it.
right then - have tried the elbow strap out and it's made a huge difference - loads of nurofen gel helped too and it's off to a local accupuncturist to try that next. Thanks for the advice all!
Mine comes and goes been on anti-inflammatory, but not had the steroid injection as my GP seems reluctant due to the success ratio, so I just live with it. After reading the other threads I shall go and seek advice on acupuncture although always been skeptical about that.
Putting a good site blocker on your computer to prevent you from accessing [u][url= http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=left-handed+website ]left-handed websites[/url][/u] may well reduce the symptoms.
I get TE every now and again. I also play a lot of racket sports which is probably what caused it in the first place. I found that using a thicker grip on my rackets helped loads as i didnt have to grip the handle as hard. I also gave this a go on the bike by getting the thickest grips i could find (unbraned LBS bargin bin things) and TE only re-occurs when i over do the racket sports now.
