Morning all,
At the end of the month I have four days to play with and a plan of heading up to north Wales with the bike. Given that the weather is consistently rubbish at the moment I can't help but think a heading somewhere warm would be a welcome change of pace. So, budget of £400, where would you go for four days riding? Thinking maybe Spain or Grand Canaria?
Never done it before so who what where etc?
TIA 🙂
We’re off to Malaga with Switchbacks on Feb 28th. 3 1/2 days riding. Trails look amazing. I’ve ridden a few times further into the hills but it’s too snowy this time of the year. So only 20 mins from the airport means an early flight gets you and extra 1/2 days riding.
Grand Canaria is odd. There isn’t that much ‘legal’ riding. I was over there last year and did a day with FreeMotion. It was good fun but the guide was saying there wasn’t much to ride - or at least trails they could show us.
We rode in Tenerife a few years back with LavaTrax. Good routes, not super long but some proper technical stuff out there. End up at the beach and it’s mostly uplifted.
Sounds pretty good, will check them out 👍
Out of curiosity are flights and accommodation included in price?
Flights no, accommodation normally. I think for Tenerife we booked our own accommodation but all the big players out Malaga way - Switchbacks, Ciclo Montana, Basque etc will have that sorted as part of the package.
Yeah, Malaga is dead easy and reliably good for weather. Loads of cheap flights and you've got several MTB companies out there and loads of trails - actually a fair bit close to Malaga but most companies are based an hour or so easy in the Sierra Nevada hills.
When I used to do week-on/week-off shifts I'd occasionally book a cheap flight and do 4 days out there, back in time to start next shift. 🙂
I've just been to Malaga last week and it was great riding and weather. The UK is absolute rubbish in comparison - especially at the moment.
Went with Sierra MTB Holidays this time. Have done Switchbacks before. Both are very good and not far off Malaga Airport.
Couldn't comment on anyone else. I know that some of the other companies are a more lengthy transfer from Malaga Airport and are based further in the mountains and might not even operate in Winter.
The Costa Blanca region is mostly dry and warm during the day this time of year and has good trail riding in the mountain ranges just inland from the sea. Either get a guide or find your own routes from Strava etc, there's loads of trails, some of them well marked and no access issues that i've come across. Cheap flights to Alicante and loads of accomodation options. You may need a hire car if not buying a package.(It's also a great road riding area if that's your thing)
