[Closed] Forum useage since classifieds changed

I'm not wanting to re-open the classified can of worms so my question isn't about those..

But since they changed is it just me or is the main forum useage on here declining? Seems like posts don't update anywhere near as frequently?

Anyone else noticed this?

Aye, decline started long before classifieds changed.

Probably when TJ came back tbh.... 😉

Mark has repeatedly said that usage is up.

If it had been declining at the rate people say it has for as long as they have been saying it there would actually be a negative number of members/posters...

There’s quite a number of negative posters, have you seen the Sick threads? 🙂

And in other news tractor output last month broke all previous records.

Definitely a decline in post count since the update. Maybe click count is up due to the way pages load and the new navigation. Somewhat overzealous moderation by closing similar themed threads doesn't help either.

It's certainly declining. I uses to buy and sell very regularly (daily?) only visited that part of the site about once a month now.
Actual replys on topics and new topics seem to have dropped dramaticly to my perception.

I think posts might be down but given the number of posts that could be attributed to a small number of posters (some of which flounced off) that shouldn't be a surprise.

Classifieds seems to be doing nicely now.

After hanging out on a few other forums this place seems to be far busier. Looking at topics the same people have posted across multiple platforms, the ones here get loads more responses, faster.

That might be because everything is in one place though, rather than having specific rooms for different wheel and tyre sizes, mind...

Seems a lot quieter.
That must be the overall trend for any forum though? The game done changed...

We’ve lost a lot of posters, that’s for sure. Some I’m glad to see go, some were booted out, some left for various other reasons.

I reckon the core posters are still here, but post less.

This is because Canadians are happier

And

Erm well must have more to do in the office rather than have their browser minimised at the bottom of the screen

Minimised?

Ok !!! some people have it maximised too....

Factor in that on the EU referendum thread the same people have at least 3 different logins ...yeah it's busier that way

Forum is definitely less useful now in that random/niche questions seem to attract less answers whereas a couple of years ago in an hour or so you'd have at least 2 experts in Mongolian yak farming arguing over optimal toenail cutting strategies.

Argument/big hitter threads as busy as ever, of course.

All's fine. It's busy on Drac's iPad 👍 😉

I've noticed a marked increase in moaning about the classifieds threads, probably more than making up for any estimated unsubstantiated shortfall in forum traffic

increase in moaning about the classifieds threads

As predictable as the moaning threads, a moaning post moaning about people moaning...again...the irony! 😂

Bloody re-moaners, moaning again and again on these threads.

At least the jokes about Drac's iPad will never get old.

For me the 'upgrade' has made it harder to follow threads and see when there are fresh replies because I can no longer see when and who last posted and nor do I have a list of threads I've posted in.

Maybe this has led to less browsing and posting by me but I do try to keep the crap post content as high as I can in the circumstances.  Sorry

My recent brush with adverts when my P ran out made realise how horrible the forum is.

They certainly must deter a lot of casual browsers  who never come back.

I don't bother to look at the classifieds anymore

It's clunky but you see which ones you have replied to.

Oh yeah, I know Drac and I do use it when I want to find something. What I liked about the old version was that I could instantly see if there had been further replies on a thread. The new is as you say clunky and not grouped by thread so less use to me at least

Usage stats down at the bottom 1million+ unique visitors in Feb if the figure is accurate. That’s a hell of a lot of people not contributing to forum discussions. It does feel like fewer people are posting, but maybe there’s other factors including attitudes of many on here.

You got a thread? Mike's got a hot take on that.

I do wonder how some people on here appear to be holding down a job while posting prolifically.

Potentially they have a considerably higher fibre-intake diet than others so can spend most of their day posting...

I was just chuffed when we got a new ‘my neighbour is being a dick’ thread. They used to be a regular occurrence. It does seem quieter overall, but still the best place to hang out on the internet

That software for running massive factory simulations takes gazillions of hp whilst it's running ....

Stw forum browser minimised on screen 2

I'm more curious about how they fit in riding a bike between posting about it.

Where are people going for classified sales now?
I'm a moaner, I only have mobile devices and not sure if that makes a difference but I find the new classifieds section here pretty much unusable now. Also being hit by pop ups on my iPad, which never happened before. Such a shame, was so useful previously.

This...

What I liked about the old version was that I could instantly see if there had been further replies on a thread. The new is as you say clunky and not grouped by thread so less use to me at least

The consequences of which perhaps now are becoming real.
On the previous version you could easily revisit threads that you’d found interesting and contributed to in the past (even weeks and months old). And if relevant add to it - keeping the ‘conversation’ live.
Now it’s more of a chore, so you may contribute to an interesting piece but then after a few days that thread may be lost and the dynamic dialogue deteriorates as a result.
It’s not even that you can use the Search functionality to find them again. That appears to be utter cack.
Just my opinion of course.

I thought I'd try posting a WTD ad after giving up last time - if I switch off the and blocker on my laptop with STW open, the browser just grinds to a halt. This time I tried my phone - and, after a frustrating 15 minutes of page reloads, long waits and fanning about, I should, hurrah! So if you've got a 26" XL hardtail frame you want rid of, head over to the WTD ads...
