That's mental, I remember it was May before they opened the track not that long ago. Quite right though, make the best of it!

Very much this. Not much snow this year in the hills, but to have the dh track opening in February is mental!

Makes you wonder how long these places really have left as snowsports venues. Fort William have done a fair bit of diversification, and Aviemore seem to do a good trade in tourist trips in the summer (when the train isn't broken). I wonder if the Lecht and Glenshee will step things up in that regard?

Well only last Easter the Lecht was snowed in and Glenshee was rammed. So early days perhaps.

They've finally realised that the bike trails pay a lot more than they thought, it was daft saying the trails were only open a certain period, really daft, the if there's no snow they're then making no money.

This will help to keep the snowsports going, paying staff all year round and punting money back into facilities.

Running the biking numbers convinced them to spend on the top chief, pump track, and there's more trails planned.

I hope Glencoe follow, as it makes sense, they have all these folk driving past.

The number of "Ski days" across the Scottish resorts has actually been trending up over the past 15 years and skiing is projected to be viable at least into the 2050's.

My memory was that you go east for early snow and west later in the season - Glencoe were close on claiming a new glacier last year with a patch of snow holding out so long!!

Great idea to be flexible on the lift, especially if you have the lift open/staff on site

Was boarding there last Monday in OK conditions - limited cover, but decent snow between the icy bits. It was gone by Tuesday. Pity, but if this allows them to keep people employed and visitors coming, great. If only cairngorm had been as sensible all those years ago.

The guys over at Nevis seem to take a bit more pragmatic approach to what happens on the hill versus the Cairngorm folks and their "special" mountain

Alternatively, the conservationists don't give a toss about Nevis Range but whinge about so much as a stone being moved at Cairngorm. Maybe do some reading on the matter?
