Formula cura 4 brake lever feel

so after years on Shimano I bought some second hand Cura 4 and formula rotors to try with them being touted as some of the best most powerful stoppers on the market

bled and new pads in, rotors cleaned and bed in,first ride yesterday was eventful

being used to shimanos wandering softer lever feel I found the lever feel on the Cura to be almost instant pull and stop,no wandering lever, very hard lever feel but proper stop on a penny type braking

was a baptism of fire with having been used to having some lever throw to feather the brakes before and then basically these are instant power

no feathering,no gently pulling levers to brush off some speed, just pull levers and bang,

Are this who run Cura’s have same instantaneous braking or am I missing something

I'm struggling to pick the question your asking out of that tbh

I’m asking if the lever feel on the Acura 4 should be ‘pull lever ever so slightly and brakes are locked up’ kinda feel as a pose to Shimano where the lever will travel a god but before proper biting

also is it due to the 2.3 rotors I have which is causing the lever feel to be so sharp or just me not used to this kind of power

There is very little movement between off and on with the curas but as you get used to them the modulation is absolutely there and I love mine.
Just takes a little practise

no it shouldnt be like that.

Mine have about 50% travel towards my bars before rear locks and front is popping my eyes. Similar lever travel to my Deores. Just a much nicer feeling brake with way more stopping power.

Formula brakes have always been a bit like that. My Cura 2's have very little movement before they bite on. This does make winter steeps a little more tricky.

When you bled them, did you have the pistons all the way into caliper? If not, you could try that.

Out of interest which way round is the threaded barrel that the reach adjuster goes through? (the D shaped bit)

I had a new pair of Cura 4s and this barrel was fitted in a different direction on either brake.

Makes quite a big difference to lever reach and throw.

You can see how the adjuster is directional here.

Suspect it will take a few outings to get used to the different feel and how to make best use of them. The way you describe them sounds like my ideal lever feel - I don't like lots of lever pull. I suspect once you have ridden them a few times you'll adjust to how they work and the feel will start to be apparent.

Yeah, this is one of the great things about them - minimal lever pull, loads of power straight off the bat.
