I have quite a few MTB Athletes on FaceAche & Instaspam and most of the stuff they share/ post is Ok for anyone to look at and not find it offensive or inappropriate.
Now to my mind if you're an Athlete you should be promoting a positive healthy life style (don't thing most would disagree) most of them post up end of season party/drinks etc which is also fine.
But Danny Hart posted this earlier:

Now I don't have an issue with the beer, 'cos most people have the odd one or two after a ride. But not sure about the smoking....
What message does that convey to the younger fans?
You have to wonder if that's why he was rubbish on the flat pedally sections last season......
So is it not ok, or am I being a snowflake?
Full disclosure I have never smoked, my parents did until their 60'sand so did the rest of my family (it also contributed to some of theirs demise...) so to my mind smoking sucks.
Ginger beer is not alcoholic.
Agree with you on smoking though (lost my mum to lung cancer), however, everyone has a choice, athletes included.
I’m just disappointed it’s not a joint,
I think many MTB athletes and influencers are dicks, and so are many of their fans.
Of more concern is the terrible spelling and grammar.
The smoking isn’t great (and I find it bizarre that anyone into mountain biking at any level smokes or vapes) but these pros are only human.
Whether it’s a great idea to put it up on Instagram is another question, I can’t imagine it going down well with sponsors…
Fair point hadn't realised it was non alcoholic..........
Now I don’t have an issue with the beer, ‘cos most people have the odd one or two after a ride. But not sure about the smoking...
That's not being a snowflake, it's just being subjective.
It's his career, health, life, etc. Unless the issue is with all the sugar in the ginger beer?
It's just riding bikes down a hill. It's not like they have to pedal to the top.
Jesus Christ, I was expecting another drunk/drugs/sexual violence thread. I don't smoke and don't recommend it but smoking a cigarette is really at the minor end of the scale. Ginger beer is a soft drink. You're a snowflake on this one.
Why an Australian ginger beer though?
I can remember once googling whether a film would be suitable for my kids. I stumbled into a very bizarre world. I found films that have implied nudity. This means the person is shown in a way where you can’t tell if the person is wearing cloths. Like a silhouette of a person swimming.
So now we have implied smoking. It’s a picture of a soft drink on a dirty table. The fag butts look horrible and I haven’t started smoking yet
Whatever you do, don't let your kids watch classic movies.

Yes you're definitely a hand wringing snowflake. Seriously, who cares?

True facts.

Have you met any of the Hart family?
I think you'd be surprised at these other stuff a lot of pros put in their bodies between seasons if you think a roll up is bad 😅
With a few super serious exceptions (gwin for eg) the rest are young guys and girls in an extreme sport lifestyle who love having fun....
I think there are bigger concerns on YouTube than smoking cigarettes.

It's quite a nice ginger beer, tbf... Given the choice between Bundy or Idris or whatever its called in the UK I would take the Bundy.
Snowflake? Drip moor like 😉
Fanny Fart in being a fanny shocker.
Don't ever watch old copies of Sprung, you'll shit a brick 🙄
Danny is essentially a massive scally, so this shouldn't come as a surprise.
Don’t ever watch old copies of Sprung, you’ll shit a brick 🙄
Or 'King of the Road' on Vice. Who knew skateboarding could give you nightmares?
There are rules against promoting smoking on other media, why should YouTube be any different?
Is an ashtray promoting smoking?
Outrageous behaviour, should be setting an example like fine fellows

Genuinely tho, someone in downhill smoking and drinking ginger beer is a long way down my list of worrying examples being set.
Wasn't #peaty practically sponsored by Stella bitd?
Anyway, move on nothing to see here...
You better not read or listen to the Rob Warner interview on STW then! It wouldn’t do for us all to be paragons of virtue, wouldn’t it be chuffin boring?
I love an Idris so I'm going to have to find a Bundaberg and see if alpin is correct.
An athlete may represent a sponsor/employer and I guess they will have an agreed responsibility to behave in a manner approved of by that sponsor but otherwise nope.
If you don't like what I do do else where.
Why an Australian ginger beer though
That brand also do a root beer which is very nice as root beers go.
Fairy sure an N/A beer is pretty insignificant relative to some of his counterparts. I never heard anyone complain about Steve Peat's affinity with Stella.
Not sure smoking is a great idea, and may not have helped his results.
IMO, it shows a very poor attitude to PR, which when he's job hunting is really not going to help.
I’ve been slated in the past for suggesting that DH racers are not athletes. This kind of proves the point
Not really a great image for ‘professional’ sport , and neither was how many DH acted during lock downs
If a sport wants to be less minority it has to be more professional
Absolute nonsense, have you read of what pro roadies get up to in the off season?,
Wiggins went through a period fairly recently of posting pictures of himself smoking. He's retired and can do what he wants but it always struck me as odd and ever so slightly irresponsible given his influence on up and coming athletes.
You have to remember that these are just normal people though (with a bit more talent than most) and navigating (sometimes badly) through life like the rest of us.
Mmm Bundaberg. Just don't look how much sugar is in it.
Massive overreaction.
Already bee covered but all I could think of replying initially was
Of more concern is the terrible spelling and grammar.
How many World Champs have you won then?!
Name your sport, name your smoker: Blanco (rugby); Zidane, Lampard and numerous others (football); Ferrer (tennis); Warne (cricket)...
People do understand that not everything written or shown on social media is real or factual don’t they?
point

Meh. Im glad there's a home for wild and lairy characters in mountain biking even though it's a bit sterile these days. I'm not interested in the achievements of clean-cut boy scouts.
I think that's partly why I've drifted back to skating and BMX videos. I'd rather watch Swampfest than any professional cycling.
