[#3585528]

Hello i own a carrera fury with a suntour epicon fork. 120mm travel witch can be let out to 140mm. will this cause problems or damage the frame in any way? I know it will change how the bike feels but im willing to give it a go as i feel like im going to go over the handle bars on some decents. thanks for any help.

I had the same problem when I had a Fury.Ended up leaving the forks at 140 for all the downs. No issues. The stem was a bit too long and that didnt help.

Thanks, can you tell me did it make the bike feel very light at the front when climbing steep hills as thats the only other problem i find with this bike.

Yes, it did.I put the forks to 120 when climbing, but yes, at 140 the front end rose on the steeper stuff.

I think its the general geomotory of the bike to be honest.I've got a Spesh Enduro now with 160 on the front and it climbs much better than the Carrera without lifting at the front at all.

Thanks again, just would like to know how you changed them back to 120 when climbing. I watched a video of how to puy them to 140 which involves taking them apart. Is there something im missing?

Does anyone think i would be better trying a shorter stem first? Bike comes standard with a 100mm stem, would an 80mm one make a big change?

80mm stem would shift your weight back a bit.

If you're comfortable doing the fork travel change yourself and the frame is ok at that length of fork strength wise then it's somethign you coudl try 'for free' and see if you liked?

I think CarpeDiem assumed they were adjustable 'on the fly'?

That's what I meant - 'front heavy', but then changing to a shorter stem or a longer fork is only going to make the front lighter when climbing.

Have you got your seat far back on the rails or a layback seat post? Just thinking maybe you have your weight too far back when seated but when descending you are standing up and then the stem is pulling your weight too far forward.

Yep saddle is forward, seems its just down to the geomotory of the bike like carpe diem said. Thanks anyway

No don't think so,have the fork set up quite good with 20/25% sag.

Yes, mine were adjustable, no tinkering involved.
