Looking for some oil that I can use to replace the Fox 10wt stuff I need to service my forks, as I only need 160ish ml`s of the stuff I don’t want to go and buy a 1L of Fox oil.

Does any one have any first hand experience of using other readily available brands that come in smaller sizes bottles.

Cheers Brian.

Just ordered some Rock oil from CRC 500ml for £5.99, haven't got it yet so can't tell you if it's any cop but Rock oil are a well respected company in motor sports.

TandemJeremy. That’s what I was going to do until I started reading up on wt and viscosity rating and all that. I started to get paranoid, so I thought I would ask first.

Not all fork oils are created equal, and certainly the cheaper stuff they sell in Halfords it pretty tosh.

You NEED fully synthetic stuff, and designed for use in motocross bikes.

£5.99 for half a litre of Rock Oil from CRC is pretty good going though, and it's top stuff. I tend to use either Silkolene Pro RSF or Putoline, depending what I can get my hands on, both usually around £10 per litre.

A week ago I overhauled my Float 36, incl damper cartidge. After reading this stuff:

I ordered 1L of Silkolene 7.5W from MD Racing, £10.25 delivered.

I have to say the fork is noticibly smoother now, so I'd highly recommend it.

I've previously used Rock Oil in another Fox fork and found it to be quite poor.

I did mine recently with standard Silkolene 10w and they feel quite harsh in use and the forks make my hands tingle on long rides.
I have some 7.5 pro Silcolene. When I get chance I will try that.

Yeah, looking at the charts I think 7.5W is just slightly lighter than Fox/Torco 10W. I'm using fractionally more compression and rebound on the fork than before.

You can of course blend the Silkolene stuff if you're that into that side of things.

You didn't scrimp when you bought your fox fork so I dont get why people want to save a couple of quid using any alternative just because someone on the net told you it's OK, will work the same and won't have any negative effects. I'm more comfortable trusting the manufacturer to any online bike suspension fork "expert"

Quality fork oil is quality fork oil

You really think silkolene or rock oil is worse quality that Fox? Who makes Fox?

I have used both silkolene and Rock and find no noticable difference.

I belive that is correct z1ppy. About £18 for less than a litre from Mojo or £12 for 1 litre torco.
