Noticed my rockshox front fork appears to possibly have some play under braking, lowers appear to move backwards. Not sure if I'm imagining it though.

Also braking heavily the other day my juicy 7 on the front appeared to catch the spoke? This confused me even more though as if the lowers have play why should it hit the spokes given both wheel and brake or attached to the lowers..

Had bike upside down and can’t feel any play or make it move….

Any thoughts please. Do most bike maintenance myself but tackling the fork feels a bit much. I also can't afford a service or a new fork at the minute.

Nike is frequently used on and off road and is my commuter...

Not dumb at all and needs checking in the light...

Should the lowers appear to move backwards a little under braking ?

could be the bushes if the lowers are moving independently..

oh an dyou'll need a bushing tool for that job (not cheap)

I'd be tempted to suggests the caliper is loose (which could explain both symptoms) or the spokes could be loose causing the catching and the bushes worn explaining the play. Occom's razor suggests it's your caliper bolts that are loose.
